flashed by a speed camera the wrong direction

Featured Replies

basically i was heading towards one of the yellow boxes on a stick and didn't even notice it because it was dark. it was facing towards me and the lines marked on the road were on the other side.

i thought that they only went off for traffic travelling the opposite direction than i was?? i was only doing about 35 if that so i'm pretty confused as to why it happened and what will happen.

any ideas/ past experience?

there is a 30mph speed camera down my way on just one side, if u go 37+ the wrong side it goes off.

and you get a fine? or it just flashes and takes a picture of nothing?

It flashes but nothing happens.

Amusing when you do it and another person is going across it on the correct side of the road.

if its a fixed camera then nothing will happen, or shouldnt, I've been through quite a few that have gone off the wrong way and heard nothing

they are designed to take a shot of the rear of the car

the second flash wouldnt be in shot for them to determine whether or not you were speeding

can take over 2 weeks for a notice to come thro the mail, but I'm sure your safe :)

You can tell which cameras are the ones which take frontal pictures and the ones which take pictures as you drive past them.

yeah i figured it would be ok as they shouldn't really be able to do something they aren't designed to do but was worried because i thought if they are going to the trouble to put a camera there they may aswel get speeders from both directions....

If it does take over two weeks to come through you can usually get off :-)

haha yes, nice detailed diagram

and

35....'ish'

8-)

why would it flash you head on... surely that's dangerous?

The flash is considered to be a hazard to drivers if it is in the face so to stop people complaining they don't send out tickets if you get it front on :) Unless its a Truvelo camera rather then a GATSO which is designed to catch face on so they can identify the driver, but they don't flash - just use infra red (I think) so you should be ok.

Yeh fella, its illegal to have cameras that flash towards you, as it could temporary blind you, and you obviously hitting a car infront or mounting the kerb and killing a pedestrian etc.. I would report this to the council, as its their responsibility. I've got one down by my parent's house, and its a pain half the time.

ace well if i do get a fine i'll say the flash blinded me and i nearl crashed :)

You get double the points if you trigger it going the other way as you must have been way in excess of the limit for it to flash. The Gatso's are very reliable.

oh no conflicting stories :(

well i definately was not going way in excess!

that would also mean i lose my licence? i haven't been driving 2 years so i understand i can only get 6 points?

dont leave me hanging on that!

lol

Do your research :)

Yeah you lose your license if you get 6 points in the first 2 years of driving. Expect to pay retest fees, both theory and practical. Not to mention the speeding fine.

I've not read the thread, but judging by the pic it's a truvelo camera, which is allowed to be pointed at the driver because it's got an infra red flash (some see it as a purple flash but usually only at night) which doesn't dazzle (although some argue it is just as bad as gatsos for dazzling). If there are lines on the side of the road you were travelling, there's a chance it's got you. No lines and you'll be fine. They need the lines on the road to work out your speed.

mate you will be fine me and my mates used to speed up to this camara all the time like u discribed and used stand out the sun roof and give it the v's because it takes a picture of the front of your car then of nothing . we did this a few times a week until they fixed now it dont go off any more :( . if you want them to fix the camara just do that a few times a week swearing at them and I'm sure they will get sick of looking at photos of your polo and fix it quick time. :-)

As matey said two above to determine how fast you were going they count the lines :) So they can't tell :) = No fine :p BOOM!!
