I've not read the thread, but judging by the pic it's a truvelo camera, which is allowed to be pointed at the driver because it's got an infra red flash (some see it as a purple flash but usually only at night) which doesn't dazzle (although some argue it is just as bad as gatsos for dazzling). If there are lines on the side of the road you were travelling, there's a chance it's got you. No lines and you'll be fine. They need the lines on the road to work out your speed.

You get double the points if you trigger it going the other way as you must have been way in excess of the limit for it to flash. The Gatso's are very reliable.

umm I've never heard of that before!!!

Gatso are not designed to be forward facing as has been said the flash would blind you in certain conditions.

What you do have to be careful of is the truvelo's on the opposite side of the road facing towards you. I've seen them even on roads with central reservation.

i got busted one night in derbyshire takin the wrap for a m8, so he didnt lose his licence for being in possesion. they took me 20 miles away to buxton nick, and he gratefully sped his way over to pick me up after my charge, i assure you they can get you face on with some cameras!! he got 3 points and a fine for speeding and he tried to turn it over sayin it was dangerous and that he nearly crashed they just laughed at him!! so i cross my fingers for you m8

If it flashed, it was a Gatso, these can only be used to prosecute if you're driving away from the camera, not towards it.

nearly all cameras have lines on BOTH sides of the road, because u could simlpy move to the other side of the road couldnt you.

some guy over took me at a gatso and used the footpath!, it didnt flash lol :p

i'm worried it was a truvelo camera but it did flash twice.

i'm thinking there was a chance there were lines on my side of the road too. i can't really remember very well cos it caught me by suprise and i didn't stop to study the situation

If it was a normal camera "white" flash then it was a gatso and you'll be fine.

They always put lines on both sides of the road. It costs them a tiny bit more yet because people see the lines they tend to slow down thinking they can be caught. And Truvelo's aren't that common so don't worry about it :).

mate you will be fine me and my mates used to speed up to this camara all the time like u discribed and used stand out the sun roof and give it the v's because it takes a picture of the front of your car then of nothing . we did this a few times a week until they fixed now it dont go off any more :( . if you want them to fix the camara just do that a few times a week swearing at them and I'm sure they will get sick of looking at photos of your polo and fix it quick time. :-)

If it was a White flash (gatso), you should be ok. I've heard of people prosecuting for being blinded by being flashed and nearly crashing!!

If it didn't flash and there wasn't a barcode style measure strip on the road, it will most likely be a digital camera and can get you :(

I meant by the diagram! Truvelo would have been on his side of the road and they have three lines painted close together rather than the many lines of a Gatso

... and truvelo's don't flash because they use infra red.

it DID flash so its GATSO!

why are people still trying to work out what sort of camera it was?!
