yeah, the back doors are now just the frames, theres nowt else on them, took a lot of weight out.

I think the door being welded will strengthen the shell aswell. plus now i can take the handles off the doors and smooth them =]

Yup, welding the rear doors will strengthen the shell considerabley. You lot too young to remember the dukes of hazzard? They welded the doors on the General Lee to make the car stiffer and had to climb in and out of the windows!

thinking of making some strut braces, any tips?

For the rear weld 2 plates on the suspension turrets seam welded all the way round. Then weld a thick tube between these two plates. Will make an exellent brace for the rear and can double up as a harness mounting bar to loop the shoulder straps round. This is what I'll be doing to my Track Car over the winter as I also can't afford a cage!

then agian, hit a bump to hard and it will probably crack back into the door shape :p

just be carefull with the engine mods, may not pass an emission test, would say take it for an mot then change the engine

but with a new unused exhuast that should sort that problem.

Yup fully road legal, in fact that reminds me the tax runs out on sunday!

it'll keep up with brand new Golf GTI up to around 80 and then they pull off. On track I've dusted a few Porkers, a couple of Lotus's and one TVR. It's a bit mental allright, ha ha.

All out speed is overated. As long ss it handles well and gives you a grin then out on track it doesn't matter if you're not the fastest thing out there. There will ALWAYS be faster cars on the circuit anyway. The group I do days with include a few Radicals and a Noble M12, those boys come round in my mirrors several times in one session.

Another thing, if you go on a trackday get a lesson with an instructor if one is offered. For the money it is worth WAY more than any mod you can do on your car as you'll go much much faster when you know the correct lines and how to drive them. I had a session where I was stuck behind a BMW Z3M coupe. He was blisteringly fast on the straights but in the bends I was all over him becuase he didn't know the lines. In the end he backed off and pulled over on one of the straights to let me past!!!!

I wouldn't bother really. You need your dials and the heater is a must as misted windows on a trackday is NOT good. I would just remove all the lower stuff and the glove box lid but leave the main dash in place.

Is there anything else i need for a 16v conversion other than the engine??

if it helps mate - from what i've gathered it is just a straight swap (with all like manifolds, looms and other associated engine components), not sure what gearboxes will fit but driveshafts should be fine and there wouldn't be any other chassis modification needed or anything.

8v and 16v polo's are literally the same car just with a different engine, the bottom end of a 1.4 16v may even be the same as a 1.4 8v? but i'm not sure on that.

looooads of people will have done conversions though, or if not have a much better knowledge of 16v engines than me.. so will probs be better to wait for them to confirm it all lol
