got up late today and got around to my mates shed at 12 o clock, he's talked me into putting a new lump into his mk2 golf gti 8v.

well i had to rely on his tools which were few and far between despite being told he had loads of tools, anyway work started at 12.

by 2PM i'd got this far

next was the new lump...fitting new clutch.....

mk2 rear mount fitted and gearbox bolted up

adjusted oil return pipe

by 4pm all mounts were bolted up

by 6pm fuel lines, throttle cable, clutch cable, servo vac, gearlinkage, shafts, speedo cable, and 60% of the loom were all fitted up

obviously there's alot more to do but i didn't think i did bad for 6 hours work.

Nice work mate,

I KO'd my 16v and bought myself a new bottom end along with loads of cubbins for £50 and going to get the head checked. Probably take me a couple of months cleaning and painting bits before it runs again haha not 6hrs.

he's building it on a budget so not going to be amazing but i hope to get it up to a decent spec, i sold him the engine / loom etc for £400 and am charging £400 labour to fit, so should work out at around the £1200 mark running 190 - 200bhp.

thats handy to know, is the 8v gear box going to be ok ratio wise? and will it take 200 bhp?

some people prefer the 8v, some the 16v and some the 20v. he doesn't want to spend alot so stuck with the 8v box.

i'm sure it'll last as long as the chocolate mk4 box does, the diffs explode on them too. shame it wasn't a pre 88 gti box as they're a bit tougher.
