The Beetle

Got her back in january (2009) and set about building her up for Big Bang

Paid £1000 and got most of the bits i needed.

Was very cold when work started (remeber the snow)

Well she made it to Big Bang, Clutch arm bent just before i got to Santa Pod road so had to adjust the clutch cable all the way up, got just past the gate and died and rolled into the RWYB sign

Spent most of the weekend trying to get her running again and after going through 5 sets of points gave up

Got towed home

Dead coil turned out to be the problem...

Drove around for quiet a while having to fix things regularly

3 MOT tests later she passed and drop spindles were fitted the night she passed... luckily id already had the beam out for some welding for the MOT, took the oppertunity to add some plates to slide around on to avoid more damage to the beam

The Fastback

This project is on hold for the moment as have to many to be working on a once, but it was free so had to be had 8-)

Basicly just a shell but not in bad condition and won't take long to get solid, finding all the bits will take a while tho!

fastback win i want one alot !!!

omfg your bug is porn!!! its perfect in everyway!!! love fast backs, keep us posted on that please

The camber is amazing! And how low? Love it

Could your Beetle be any sicker?

that bug is fucking sweet. one thing though, is there no way of getting positive camber on the front as well? its just every slammed bug i've seen seems to have miss matched camber :?

love it all the same mate

  • Author

Cheers guys 8-)

is there no way of getting positive camber on the front as well?

Don't want positive camber dude  Negitive is what you mean 8-)

Yes its possible, mine has a tiny amount (as much as the stock camber adjusters allow) when the wheels are straight but when the wheel turns it will nearly always postive camber on one side

You can buy extra offset camber adjusters which would give you more.

problem is tyres dont last very long (couple of months) and it fish tails like a whore in the wet above 40mph, so camber on the front in the rain n you'd loose steering quiet easy

yeah sorry negative

well that probably explains why theres never as much camber on the front as on the back

f**king ACE!!!! absolutely love that and cant believe youve done all the work yourself =D

i normally hate cars with rust on them but it just works on a bug, though I'm not sure about the rusty oil drum on top lol

this is spot on,saw the brown one at peterborough rod and custom show 8-)

The last journey out for the beetle ended by me hitting this flat bit of road...

7834_162346739896_510764896_2501952_1896

7834_162346759896_510764896_2501954_6532

It caused the bonnet to fly open quiet a bit of stuff the be thrown out of the front of the car, nearly including my tool box, it also dropped the front of my car onto the floor making it scrap just moving forwards :-(

Managed to scrape it off the main road onto a side road...

7834_162346769896_510764896_2501955_9892

Hard to try and work out how to make the car move enough to drive it home (about 15 miles)

7834_162346779896_510764896_2501957_5317

Once up ion the air we could see the problem...

7834_162346789896_510764896_2501959_6271

That's the Framehead on the front of my Chassis, its ment to be straight (none of those creases) and it holds the front beam/axle onto the car, its has bent more on one side than the other meaning the beam is sitting way off straight, it also push the front of the beam back which is why the car was sat on the floor :-(

The impact was quiet hard even tho i was only going about 5-8 mph and the shock transfered through the car, breaking the rear number plate in half and splitting the inner wings...

you can also see how bent my track rod bar is

7834_162346794896_510764896_2501960_6634

7834_162346834896_510764896_2501967_6091

Our only option at the time was to try and move the adjuster on the beam as high as we could get it

the jack made the cracks a bit bigger...

Testing to see if my slightly bigger spare would help...

(Mr Afwo doesn't know if it'l work)

Too Low ?

More photoz to come...

haha, just goes to show how low is stupidly to low. instead of bigger wheels, why not just put ride height back up a bit? or airbags?

quality, dedication ftw

Definately dedicated 8-)

Shame about that though :( Hope you get it sorted out :p

Because it was fooked and it was as high as it would go ;)

And Air is cheating :-D 8-)

It will be back on the road for Big Bang 2010 with a new front end and a little lower  :-D

Good man 8-)

That beetle is shit 'ot.

i can tell your polo will be siiiick

Alex

Massive shame about your mishap dude and hopefully won't be much work to sort the ol' girl out as shes a beaut! Love it! Ashame about the Fastback having to go too! If the Polo comes out even half as hawt as the beetle it's gonna rock! 8-)
