ok guys I'm in the process of smooting my 8v front bumper, and i was thinking i could glue/attach some magnets behind the number plate section i will be welding in then i could mount my pressed plates that are coming on some fabric so that it doesnt scratch the bumper and just pop it on and off when i need! what do you reckon?? good idea?

you'll need some propper strong magnets!! And you'll have to hope your plates are steel and not ally. I wouldn't if i were you...

my plates arent magnetic.. plus even if it was. One strong magnetic still wouldnt hold it if your cars jolting around on potholes an killer bumps.

no its not "illegal" its a grey shady area. i ran my plate in my window for over a year with no problems!

you find that bit of jurisdiction (sp) and ill eat my words but search the other threads on these and youll see...we end up arguing about this so much lol it really is a grey area, have a search and see what came out from the other threads

and if you dont wanna do that then use the L brackets

i run mine in my window sometime and drive past lots of police and even park out side station with nothing said

so i would just say window until you get told it needs to be on the front then just make up some L brackets

The law does in fact state that a number plate must be forward facing and in front of the front axle of the car.

It is not a gray/shady area and the only reason some people haven't been pulled for it is because police will not have been bothered to pull you just to give you a warning.

It's not a grey area, there's a law that states where the plate must go, is just that alot of people on here seem to know it for sure, and some people seem to think they know it when infact they don't which just gets people confused for no reason. Plus it must be illegal because people always get stopped for running their plates in the window all the time, the police wouldn't stop you for something that's legal.

Still,I'm with the L brackets in the grille idea.

I've run my rear plate in the rear window for nearly a year and I've been sat in traffic with police behind me and pulled couple times one was out to find sumit on me checked my tyres, tax, insurance the lot and breathalysed me for good measure then noticed the plate asked me why was in the back window i said it kinda fell off I'm gonna stick it back on when get home and he said make sure stick it back on when you get home and buggered off in a huff so dunno what leg you got to stand on but i think if he could of done anything he would of

^^^ mate were on about the front plate.. the rear plate must be lit up so therefore running it in the window is illegal as it wont be illuminated

Haha erm i dont have any close ups but i have done this it took ages loads of plastic welding and fibre glass filler etc but i have done it needs tidying up ill find one but it might just look like a plate in a window lol (sorry about this i know were on about the front plate) and theres two smaller lights either side of the bottom and one big one in the middle.

how about suction cups??? the one people use to stick on roof baskets and boot racks etc??? i dont really wanna make ugly brackets and i will have to take brackets off for photo shoots!

Maybe yes but would have to take Velcro of bumpers etc I'm after a simple clean solution, ie no sticky no brackets just on and off so you would never tell it's been there!

so any one ever attached there number plates differently?

also some progress (while i was waiting for a courier to collect some wheels) took about an hour to do this

my tiger seal had all gone off in the tube so i screwed the recess plate down to locate it then plastic welded the sucker and took the screws out, seems to have a very good hole i can pry the unwelded edges open!
