I'm temporarily getting another car until my Mk2 is all fixed up.

I don't have anywhere to store it though, so it's staying on the road. The car is taxed and has an MOT. Do I still have to pay for insurance, even though it doesn't move anywhere (and so can't hit anything)?

I'm guessing the answer to this is "yes" because logic and insurance never really come together.

Yes it does need tax and insurance - someone could still crash into it. Best to keep it off road if you can.

you are best shot is asking some mates, say you will give em like a £5-10 a month to leave it on there driveway or privite property.

try using that month insure website, thats if your only gonna keep it on the road for a month?

You dont need to insure it by law, however if something happened to another car due to yours, you could be held liable..

They actually have to catch you driving an uninsured car to take it from you...

Guy who lives 3 doors along is a copper and i asked him this stuff because at

one point i had 3 cars sitting outside the house all with tax and MOT's but no insurance

on 2 of them and he told me unless i get caught driving them i'll have no hassles until

the tax runs out on them of course...

Its a slight grey area really as the car is still on the road, if a cop car drives down your street with its ANPR cam running they will question it.

And I think the law being changed in the near future you are on about implies that cars on peoples driveways and private property might be required to have insurance aswell? Even if they are not on the road?

i know some people insure their cars in garages for fires, or for theft but that should be up to the owner. there is no way the vehicle is going to cause any issues to other people / other people's property in garage or on a drive so insurance for any third parties is totally unecessary.

i dont know its just what someone posted above however I'm lucky haha cousin owns his own garage and has insurance for any car there so ill just park mine there and my mate owns a garage up road from that and he has alot of space so could go there aswell =]... i just think they are bringing in too many rules and i read somewhere that D.I.Y engine swaps are now illegal unless stamped by a garage to say they are alright or something... its all crap really

What about people without a drive? that have to park in the road in front of their house?

Kid's still taking lessons for example that get their car early, the car will be taxed and mot'd but not insured yet.

insure it on a provisional licence its cheaper and you dont hafta pay a big deposit when u pass this is what i did :) after 5 days of it being parked outside my house un-insured :\
