My on-going mk2 saloon project...

Featured Replies

My saloon i picked up in january for the princely sum of £100 was plain red and covered in dents, few months of little time and effort its shaping up nicely! This weekend saw it get a mk3 gt engine fitted, just in the finishing stages, any further suggestions more than welcome :-) thanks for looking, James.

Model: Mk2 polo classic.

Engine: 1.3 mk3 gt engine, jetex system (no longer side exit as in pics), 5 speed box, golf gti ecu, ap racing clutch.

Suspension: Rear coilovers, front springs 50mm.

Brakes: Dodgy as you like with a gt engine (standard, no servo)

Wheels and Tyres: Allycats 13x8.

Exterior Styling: Painted a funny colour, early square front lights and de-badged grill, clear indicators, german plates.

Interior Styling: Standard minus a few carpets, shortened gear stick.

ICE and Security: No stereo, security wise i boxed in the junior olympics once lol.

Comments: Main job next will be sorting out the anchors on it!

That 2 tone looks quite bizarre, not sure on that. Otherwise looks clean :-)

this was at HAVOC mega meet? got yourself a trophy..

Yeah thats the one, were you there? I recognise your car i think, rather clean standardish mk2?

i came 2nd. i was behind you when we were queing up for the trophies. pretty much standard except for wheels and suspension, and a few little things. saving up for a few cool bits for it, exhaust, front coilovers, manifold, then get the engine sprayed, and a respray on the ouside i think. lots of money though

Yeah i thought so!! What are those wheels, i quite liked them? hmmm yeah loads of money and actuall adjustable coilovers for the front aren't readily available i don't think. Is it a 1.0L or a 1.3L ?

the wheels are Ronal's cant remember what they're called, but I've only ever seen them in a picture on a mk1 derby, which is in the mk1 polo single picture thread on the members gallery bit.

a friend of a friend run's/works at polo performance servies, and he sells them for roughly £300. but i need to sort my exhaust first because if i go lower i think i'll rip my one off.

its a 1.3 5 speed. same interior as yours (with carpet) i want black door cards for it though. lots of bits i want to do to it, but i got a '65 splitscreen single cab.. so my money tends to go on that!

Cool, yeah they're nice wheels, sound quite rare.

Thats fairly cheap i reckon, have to hook me up with a set although i've lost the side exit my new system hangs quite low plus the offset of the allycats is wrong so making it any lower on those would mean rolling the arches so i think some different wheels may be on the cards.

Should get some door cards leathered!

looked great at havoc :)

nice, have you got the trim that goes along the sill between the gt arch trims? if not i have some on the gt i used this weekend for my engine transplant :-) 1.4 gt sounds like a bit of me lol

First job now will be the brakes they are shocking, now with the gt lump its become dangerous :?

on a mk2 i had a put g40 brakes on and they were not much of an improvment best thing to do is get a mk3 servo. yeah got it all. all i need is a gt fuel pump : /

Love it man.

Maidstone! I'm from Gillingham will have to meet up when i pass my test mate, also got a Loon

/retard question

I've got a Mk3 Coupe, and if it will make my brakes better on the loon ill just steal the servo off it, but what is it

Its not a plug an play mod, you have to cut up the bulk head to get it to fit. A servo will just be like having a bionic foot. It increases the braking pressure but on its own it does not lessen braking distances.

If you brakes are rather pants change the brake fluid as it probabbly hasn't been done for years and get some decent pads and you will see a major increase in brake performance.
