Need to replace my one of my sidelights - just wondering if anyone has ugraded there sidelights ie: LED's and what they think of them?

Been looking at Philips Blue Vision bulbs - think they might go well with Xenons, also am I correct in saying its the 501 fitment for 6n2's?

I've got some single L.E.D ones from eBay.

To be honest though mate, I am looking for some non L.E.Ds, because I hate the way that they just appear as a really bright white dot in your headlamps, as opposed to lighting up the whole area they are supposed to do.

On the subject of blue visions, I'd go for Osram lamps rather than Phillips. You pay a premium for the Phillips brand name as people seem to be more familiar with Phillips even though Osram are well known in the electrical industry for supplying the highest quality lamps! It's almost double for phillips brightest lamps compared to osram's brightest - and the osram ones are brighter!

That led bulb looks ok - 360 degree beam output sound good, would be good to see some pics of them actually running to get the full effect...

Cheers for that Indy...i wanted to double check the fitment just in case! -yeh i know what you mean about the dot effect but the above bulb may solve that, the Philips blue vision dont look to bad though -Tim on UK polos.net had them on his gti and they look OK

how did you take the sidelight bulb out of the back of the headlight???

i been trying with the headlight still on the car but can't get it out!!!

also the headlight insert has come loose!!! Arrrrrggggg HELP

You need to remove the black plastic cover.

Then twist and squeeze the sidelight out.

This is for non-GTI headlights.

Apparently for GTI ones you need to remove the bumper or something?

yeh i had the same problem, its a nightmare to pull out first time.. if you pull it at the angle it sits in its slightly easier

you shouldnt need to remove any bumpers or anything m8 lol just dont be afraid of cutting up your hands lol do it all day long at work ... just pull it out lol

Yeh indy is right....its the same on gtis..you needto remove the three screws holding the black cover on the back of the lamp (use a small stubby screwdrvider for this) also helps big time if you remove your indicators and the induction pipe (partially disconnect and push to one side) this way you have more room for your hands. As for the other side i remove the battery which just gets in the damn way - you definately dont have to remove the bumper just to replace the sidelight it is possible to do it with the bumper on.

Wear some thin gloves or something your hands will get cut and scratched

Just tried doing this and got on OK till I dropped the new LED bulb down inside the light housing. Arse.

How easy is it to remove the headlight? Looks like a bumper off job which if it is I'll just buy some more sidelight bulbs!

You basically have to amputate your cars face to get the headlights out, big big hassle mate. Your right in saying the bumper does have to come off. I miss the 6N for that :(, nice and easy to get headlights out!

To be honest taking off the front bumper is a 10min job anyway!

Remove 4 torx bolts above grill

Remove indicators (using a phillips turn a plastic thing and pull it up) theres 2 bolts behind this to come out

Remove 5 bolts on each side holding inner arches in place

Using a phillips remove both fog surrounds, behind should be 2 more torx bolts

Should pull off then, be careful with the fog light wiring though as you have to disconnect this first before fully removing bumper
