were would i buy rattle cans.

Dont buy rattle cans!!! they are spray cans from halfords and wont match your paint and will look gash!!

I'm having rust sorted and an external respray for £785 by a reputable company, so its all just gonna be a case of how much and where you get it done

ahryt ok. thanks for the sujections I'm wanting it done by a expert. get a better job done then.

It depends how far you want to go with your car.

If your wanting an eventual "show car" and you want a full respray and rust treatment your looking at 1.5k absolute minimum for a good job.

750-1000 will get you a a good job

spot on

£1500 minimum fr a good job and abut £2500 for a colour change

anything less than £100 wont be good as i the end you dont make much from it when its done

750-1000 will get you a a good job

It won't.

£750 will not get you a good full respray and rust treatment.

Yes it will, it just depends if you're a scene queen who needs to brag about how much their respray cost and who did it.

god i wouldnt pay anythin less than £1000, and id consider that to be cheap!

self prep cuts costs , or speek to your local collage who will do it for just the price of the materials , the teacher only lets the students good enuf paint customers cars

where I'm working at at the moment, we charge anything from £1000 upwards...

but where I'm working saturdays [and trying to get a job full time] they charge about £12k for a classic car restoration...so you do the guessing at what they charge for a respray haha.

i work for a company that supply hire cars for insurance firms. The body shop that we use for body repairs will do a full respray on my 6n for free as long as i buy the paint. its great living up north. We are a friendly bunch. Look out for a bright yellow mark four soon.

Or there's that

The cost of paint and some sound contacts

I did my own.. for £200

If I was giving it to a pro to do I wouldn't pay anything less that 1'300 I don't think.

When it comes to this kind of job. you really do get what you pay for.

12K for a resto... Get that job Rob!!

Normally I would agree.. but in fairness to halfrauds, i just bought a can of ready mixed Volkswagen Canyon Red Pearlescent LC3K (colour of my car) for a little touch up..

It's spot on! I haven't applied any lacqeur yet, but it's a seriously good match. I put the colour on a couple of days ago and when I checked it out again today I couldn't actually tell which part was fresh paint and what was the old stuff

I'm really suprised by this as i used flash red and it was atrocious!! glad it worked out for you

i think we need a bit of clarification what a full respray is??!! my respray is costing £785 and having a couple of scabs of rust bublle teated on side panels and an external respray only..as I'm staying the same colour it will not be getting done on the inside of the doors, bonnet etc etc

i hope that makes sense of why mine is relatively cheap and the company doing it cawmac, are very good and do loads of bike work and airbrushing etc

If I won the lottery... I would have every old school VW completely show worthy >.<

I wouldn't have a house or anything.. But my car collection would be worthy enough to make all you guys cream >.<

But back to the point, I would love to be able to spend the money on a full restoration like that!

And if I were you mate I wouldn't buy the cans from Halfords, my mate did it and was wank. :)

i was talking to the gaffer yesterday and he said they charged £26k for a concourse resto on an E-Type roadster.

Don't know which backstreet garages you go to.

As if you would get a full rust treatment, full prep, full respray, and then oven bake, and then wetsand and cutback for £750 - £1000

And what's with the twattish scene comment, you don't have to be "scene" to want nice paint.

I got multiple quotes for a basic exterior respray on mine in the same colour for £800-1000 from reputable companies.

Agreed, bout £900 to £1500 for a decent job. Over £1500 it'll have show car material but depends what your going for, who you know and how much you have to spend?
