Just because your spent £1500 doesn't mean your job is a good one and just because you spent £750 doesn't mean its a bad one. Its all dependent on how many hours were spent on the car and how much effort was put in to it. You see it all the time that people have got there car done for loads of money at expensive well known places and then when you get up close and look at the quality of the work its just not there. They may have done good jobs at some point which got them there reputation but its quite easy to get a reputation and then let it slip.

I'm sure most of the people who brag about there expensive paint jobs don't even know what there looking for in terms of perfect paintwork. I though I was pretty savvy until my mate started showing me how to do prep work and painting and then I started to see stuff that I never used to see in cars paint work.

i know I'm going on about £10k-£30k restos...which are expensive, but working in the bodyshop trade i know what to look for in the case of a perfect finish.

i know alot of places that just throw shit loads of fibreglass and filler at a car a whack it with primer filler...but then you have the places [like where I'm working saturdays at] who do 20hr days to get the car perfect for paint.

I currently wanting a respray, i could do it myself because i did go to college to learn it and worked in a bodyshop for a little bit but I'm not that good and i havnt got anywhere to do it, but the prices are rediculous, i mean like 1,000 for a respray? my whole damn polo cost 200 quid so I'm kinda stuck. Oh and is it possible to remove he rear side windows?

true, true.. if the car is worth no more than £200 then why do you want to respray it!?

plus once you have resprayed it, it's probably going to be worth more than that. so what the car is worth isn't really a factor..

Just curious as i'm new to resprays whether if i completly prepped car, including primered, and literally just wanted them to apply the colour etc... would that bring it down from around £800?

A lot of places won't touch cars that have been pre-prepped. A lot of the finish is determined by the prep and if the company puts colour on it then they are basically putting there name on it. If your prep work isn't as good as theres the finish won't be as good but still has that companys name on it. Which is why a lot of places won't let you prep your own car.

I'm not saying every paint job thats expensive isn't justified because a lot of them are. But some jobs just seem to be that 'so and so' did it which makes it good. I'm sure if your in the bodywork trade you will know bucket loads more than me but I'm sure you see stuff all the time that people are really happy and proud of but realistically when you get down and look at it properly isn't even that good. I mean I'm an amateur and if I can notice it then surely the job must be pants. Sometimes you can just see cars are filled with bodge and fibre glass and its so cringeworthy.
