Looking for insurance with Mods

Featured Replies

Right i passed my test this time last year so have been driving for a year, and I'm now 18

I have a 6n 1.6 and it has been insured under my mum with Direct Line for about £900.

This is great however i am looking for insurance (due in Jan) that will allow mods to my car.

I'm only looking at small changes: speakers, alloys, window tinting, clocks/switches. But also wanting to add more as time goes on.

Direct Line have offerd me no claims bonus only if i stay with them and insure on my own before moving.

So i have no claims and 3 points.

Any sujestions?

Named driver with another company?

Another company and mum as named driver?

Thanks,

all advice apriciated.

Mike

I'm gonna start this one off simply, Direct Line are really heavy against modifications, they actually turned round to me and said alloys would void my insurance as they wouldn't put them on it, even if they were the 16v alloys, I started to shop about and as I did sod's law I wrote off my first car, it then took them 1 year to get it sorted and they didn't bother to tell me they had and tried to get me to insure for another year, it wasn't until I mentioned legal action because they were withholding information about me "I'm sorry sir but we do not have permission to discuss it with you at this time".

Personly I think thats the poorest excuse to say to someone who was not only involved in a crash but was driving and it blatantly wasn't my fault. Of course because it wasn't resolved if I renewed it would have been expensive as an unresolved claim makes your policy treated as it was your fault regardless.

Rant aside now as I need to be helpful :p HIC are brilliant, my policy with them started on tuesday as I wasn't going to pull out of my old policy with Direct Line early and basically lose 3 months of insurance money, I phoned them and they had no problem with my mods, they gave me a straight off price which beat Direct Line's offer without mods and because I was on the named drivers get no claims that only applies for Direct Line

Direct Line 1 Years no claims no mods as named driver 1400

HIC 0 Years NCB Alloys and Coilovers, Momo 280mm and £600 of speakers as main driver 1000

And the best thing is you can get them to call you whenever you need something, leave a time and details on their website and they call you within 5 mins of the time requested so it costs you nothing to be on an 0800 number! The other thing is they are VW Specialists so it's another good reason to be with them.

CLICK HERE, surf their site, give them a requested time and see what they can do for you mate :D

Chris

I'm up for renewall in Feb, and have been looking at some companies too!

Adrian Flux have been best for me,

But just look around, look on other insurance topics etc, and just get quotes, a good couple of hours work is well worth it if u save 100quid on insurance!

Google "Fronting" and understand what it could mean if you get caught/have to claim before signing up to another policy as a named driver on your own car.

nick

brentacre!

they do it on bhp, so as long as you are mods dont go over that limit.

called um up yest n added; 4-2-1 manifold, induction kit, full ss decat, full race roll cage, g40 brakes, drilled n grooved disks, alloys, re-spray and more n didnt change the price n no admin charges!

cant beat that

you gotta be 19 for both of them
