Hi guys, just picked up a rover 200 sdi turbo as a cheap alternative as there are no cheap vw's around my area at the mo, just wondering, mot is up at the end of the month, if I mot it now and it failed, would the old mot expire or would it still last till the end of the month? Cheers guys

Don't worry peeps found out off the father in law to be that it will still be valid

yes your old mot is still valid from a vosa point of view. but if your car has failed then it is not road worthy and you might be in bother if the police stop you and any defects can cause your insurance to be void

very grey area as old mot still valid but knowlagable driving a car not fit for use on public road, i normally advise customers to only drive the vehicle home or to a garage for repair, gets a bit darker gray if the vehicle fails on corrosion affecting strengh of vehicle as your not ment to even drive a car in this condition not even home of to another garage

Ok cheers for the info guys. Had a good look at it and hopefully it won't fail, the structure looks fine, brakes, suspenion, wipers all that jazz. Just front wheel bearings are shot and gona have another attempt at changin um today(a bolt is major league siezed) and a power steering hose is leaking. Also would a boot that fails to open fail an mot?the spring inside has popped. Cheers again

boot not opening shouldent fail mot as not nessicary to open boot on test as spare wheel is not part of the test, nor is a reverse light for that matter. pas hose is dependent on sevarity of leak. wheel bearings will be an issue though. for siezed bolt soak with plenty of wd40 if that dont work then try a bit of heat. b&q do a plumbes heat torch ideal for the job for about £15 but let the wd40 dry out before using heat and becarful of pipes.

Ok cheers mate, got the bolts off heat didn't work, just them um to soak for a while and used a big breaker bar, but hit a new problem, rusted circlips, just gona get my mates mate to press um out and new 1s in for £15 not 2 fussed will save me a lot of trouble. The leaks nothing major just very slow. Hopefuly it will be ok, if not its 12 quid for the pipe but apparently its pressurised and will need specialist equiptment?dunno tho we shall wait and see!
