Side lights in indicators?

Featured Replies

I know many people have done it, anyone got a simple pic to show what they have to to achieve it? I like the look of it and fancy doing it, heard you just crimp the side light wires to the incators or isnt it that simple.

A picture would be lovely! hah.

what colour bulbs?

just normal ones?

Whatever colour bulbs you want

sweet,

do i just find some bulbs holders and wires from another polo then and just crimp the two brown together and the two black?

so basically i got one brown wire coming from main bit running into to two brown wires?

same with the black?

cheers

Not quite as simple as brown and black but you're not far off the mark, There are four wires in the headlight plug, the negative is the one of the thickest wires, think its black and white but don't hold me to that, and the positive for the sidelights is the thinnest of the four. On the left hand side instead of using the negative, I lugged it onto a wing bolt because the wire was reet short at that side and I'm lazy...

Has anyone made a guide for this cos i would love to do it :)

yea guide would be ace guys

yeah that would be good mate. My indy's already have a side light with its own genuine bulb holder and length of 2 wires coming out of them because they are US indy's or summit. So a little guide of what wire to what would be good. :D

Kuszpit :)

you got a pic dude? :-o

there's mine i done i put 5mm L.E.D on bottom of the indy facing up but I'm thinkin to make it brighter , and connect into live wire of indicator or get orange indicators and put little 5W bulb in there

I'll be working on the car tomorrow so will do a sort of guide, wont be a step by step as fitted but I'll dismantle what I can be arsed doing, enough to get the gist anyway.

Its to cold 4 that

I know but my mate's vectra failed its mot miserably the other day and we have free use of a garage and ramps tomorrow so I agreed to help - cant pass up on an opportunity to do some polo work at the same time! Thinking underseal as this weather and grit is beyond a joke!

I dont have any pics of them off/ the back of them but next time i have them off i will get pics up. :) Oh and forgot to say the Sidelight bulb that is in them comes from above and slightly to the left of the actual indy bulb. So quite easy to run either Orange side markers as such or L.E.D sidelight bulbs.

guide will have to wait, never got to working on the cars as gsf/ecp/a.p. are all shit and didn't have a cv joint for a mk4 golf, so its sat there clogging the ramp/garage up

Here's a quick How To that a friend did for me :)

2nd Sidelight how to:

Turn the ignition off and remove key.

Remove sidelight bulb with the holder from the back of the light.

Remove the bulb.

Cut the wires to the bulb holder and strip back 2cm of the outer sheathing.

Do the same to your spare sidelight bulb holder.

Make sure the spare bulb holder has long enough wire to reach the indicator lens.

Strip back the wires that are coming from the cars loom that were joined to the side light.

Using a bullet connector attach a female one to each of the wires coming from the cars loom.

Twist together each live wire from each bulb holder and crimp them both into a male terminal.

Repeat with the earth wires.

Put your side light bulbs back in and then back into the headlights.

Put orange bulbs into the new holders.

Then depending on how u want to do it insert the new bulb holder into the back of the indicator.

Ok so I'm wanting to do this mod the wiring won't b a problem but how do I fit the bulbs into the indicators? Can I use White/blue lights in the indicators as sides or do they have to be Amber? Could I use side repeaters as I have the bulbs and holders? Then drill a hole in the indicator and file some groves out? Cheers
