Polo gt box into a 1300 mk2 4spd golf?

Featured Replies

Oright all, me mate has a 1300 golf mk2 with a 4 speed gear box and i was wondering if he could use a GT box on his engine?

I know you can use GT exhaust manifold and other things to improve the golfs performance, but is there any chance the GT box will fit on, not for more power gains but just for the 5 gears?

Or will this be a pointless thing to do, thanks!

Ok thanks alot, Will it need any different linkage?

You will need a different gearbox mounting bracket, the linkage will be fine.

Where can the be purchased from and what other gt parts wil improve the performance of the 1300 gol? I read sumwhere about a european inlet manifold which was a wider bore that mated up better with the inlet ports aswell as a GT exhaust manifold? Cheers

There are 2 gearbox rear mounts on the mk2/3. The upper pressed steel one is changed to suit the gearbox but is not actually required and was deleted by VW on the later mk3 1.4 Golfs. You'll be alright with just the existing alloy rear mount.

I have an mk2 5 speed box from a 1300 engine. . . . .
