MK3 Ibiza Rally Project

Featured Replies

Hi all. I've been floating around here for a while now, making the odd post. I thought i would share a current project of ours...

We originally bought this car as a fix up car to use on the road. It had loads of little niggly problems that were annoying and had scruffy bodywork. When we went to fix something - we realised something else had broken and so on. So we decided to chop her up!

The engine originally had an 1.4 8V in it, that had seized. We had an old AFH in the garage with low miles, so decided to get it running on that first and then move on to an ABF at a later stage possibly. We'll see. :)

Anyway - here was the car when we first got it.

Then it can go to be laser cut ready for trumpets. May look like this due to having so much space in the Ibiza engine bay. Perhaps stick the carbs out of the bonnet...

And a quick look at seat rails going in.

The loom has been thinned out. No more central locking, alarm etc etc. You can just about see the loom or what remains of it! haha

nice work, bike carbs ftw 8-)

wow i like this, nic CAD work too, keep a healthy flow of updates

Awesome stuff - gets my seal of approval :D

Which gearbox will you use? I think you can get the slightly chunkier 02J/K box in the ibiza, surprised you don't go for a 2.0 16v like the cupra has (although i've been told by another lad that has a caged, rally prepped Ibiza Cupra that the 1.4 16v polo will perform as wells the 2.0)

Cheers guys. The actual inlet manifold that i will make will not have the bed in. Having looked more into it, the carbs will sit fairly angled anyway, from the titl of the engine. We'll see.

As for the AFH, we had a Polo rally car a while back and got some good power from the AFH. Here's a quick video. The 1.4 class is also a good class, so it could be a good choice. :)
