heres what i think. I've tried 13s, 14s and 15s. currently I've got 13s on my car with 175/50s. the handling isnt very nice and to be honest the wheels look too small for the car. 14s look ok, handle nice on most tyres I've tried, only prob is that performance tyres for 14s seem to be pricey and wheel choice is a little limited compared with 13s and 15s

15s are my personal fav, loads of wheel choices, 165/50s seem make for a nice handling car in my experience, grippy without being tramliney, they also fit the arches nice imo

15's look the best , BUT only if your drop is 60mm or more and your running very low pro's with a wee bit of stretch IMO , then 13's with poke look second best!

Max

They work really well, with the exact drop and exact tyre profile

Really easy to get wrong, not quite as easy to get right

Fair enough man, i forgot you were rocking coilies

I couldnt tell you about tyre profiles, I'm guessing you want pretty wide to be able to put power down :)

well the 14 x 6.5 i have on now do the job fine as tyres are not stretched.... was going to get the rears up to 7 just for looks really but have spotted a cheap set of rims with tyres in good nic that will go straight on but i do like my rims so not sure lol

my old GT was on 15x7's jake

had to stretch some 175/50's on otherwise they would rub.

Was down 60mm. just right i think.

If i had 195 tyres am pretty sure it would have rubbed alot.

any one got any pictures of a mk3 with 15s on?

i've had 13's,14's,15's and 16's on my polo, and i would say 15's are the perfect size in terms of the look. just a shame they don't make a slightly wider tyre, as 195/45's are to big, and 165/45 or 50's are to narrow. [the 165/45's conti i run on my 15's are about 180mm wide so a little wider than the bridgestone 165/50's] 195/40/15's would be spot on. 14's are the best overall for look, grip, drive etc etc.

paul- looks good on the mo's

he's a mincing racing driver. He's not scene like us.....

I think it depends on the wheels. I reckon mine looked cool on its 15s, but sometimes they look too big.

in that pic it's running 7" wide [ET52.3] with 30mm adaptors front and 45mm on the rear, fitted 165/45/15 conti tyres.

as for lowering it's on coilovers so I can't give you a figure in mm's, IT'S LOW!

cheerz fella do you get much scrubbin with it that low i got a mk3 saloon and want it low and as said got teledials just wanting to no what tyres i can run and how low i can go without gettin bother with the archs

Ps:sorry to hi jack lol just though i'd ask to save starting new post

^ you want either 165/50s or 45s or even 175/50s

you might have to roll the arches very slightly due to the lower offset you will have once the adaptors are fitted. on a 6.5j rim with std offset of et38 you can drop 80mm without any scrubbing to give you some idea.

ok mate i dont want much stretch so i think it will be 175/50 dont like stretch personal opinion is dangerous but every 1 to there own

am needing a hand on tyre size aswell

am buying a set of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-ALLOY-WHEELS---C1...1105173002r3215

the car is lowered by 80mm but i dunno what tyres i should get, just worried about rubbing, not really wanting a stretch either

185/55/15?

thats the lowest profile i can find??

175/50R15's

i had them

for 6j though, your better off with 165 50's.

Its probably going to rub at 80mm.
