Wheel bolts

Featured Replies

Ok so i'm looking for some wheel bolts (not bothered about locking bolt for now till I can afford them lol) so I know I need 16, and I know I need m12x1.5x23.5 I can only find these available in locking form and there £10+ for 4, but I can find what I'm after in m12x1.5x30 form will these be ok? I can find shorter 21mm thread but id prefer them to be longer than shorter tbh for safety

if there gonna be too lon I could get some 7mm spacers?

pri racing sell wheel bolts for specific pitch, length and seat.

too long and the wheel bolts will foul the drum mechanism on the rear.

remember to get the right "seat" for the wheel bolt your after, theres a few different types.

cheers for that mate! does anyone know the max length?

depends on the thickness of your wheels and spacers

stick a wheel bolt in your existing wheels and find out how much they poke out by, then measure up the length of the bolt holes on your new wheels, add however move the old wheel bolts poked out by

badda bing badda boom

ok so from the bottom of the seat on my alloys its 10mm thick and on my steelies its 2mm thick so without any spacers at all they need to be m12 x 1.5 x 31.5, are my calculations right?

and then just add the thickness of my spacers on top of that?

so when you stick a wheel bolt in your new alloys, the thread sticking out is 8mm smaller than it was on your steels?

if so yeh man you need 8-10mm longer bolts + the size of your spacers.

8mm or over spacers, id go for hubcentric, rather than conventional spacers, as you still retain a spigot ring for centrally locating the wheels, plus the hubcentric spacer goes into your hub with counter sunk nuts and the bolts you use for the wheel > spacer dont have to be so large

hope that helps mate

Well The thing is I have ordered a torque wrench and will be centring them correctly using the bolt and the correct torque setting Thus making the hub any good for helping get the rim on the car only and not for centering purposes.

I have hand bored the CB so I would need the hubcentrics to be very accurate on the bolt holes also (it is something to consider tho!), I may just keep them to 8mm then as hubC's are expensive for me an these rims are just till I save up for my dream rims lol,

thanks again for your help

Grunge, do you know of a chart or something which would tell you what bolts for what rims? I'm pretty sure my aftermarkets are a different seat to the originals.....

well i think theres 2 types that i can find out about 60 degree taper and rounded taper

  • Author

just found this bit worth a look for ones like me that dont know alot about bolts

2 types you say. Physically awesome cheers

Sorry mate that last post was supposed to have a link on it but it's gone if you feel the lug hole

on your rim you will be able to tell if you need roundeds or tapereds, there's a 3rd type

of bolt seat aswell flat seat!

Pepe, forgot to text you back the other day, was working nights so i was half asleep when i got it. Only know of some white 8valve bumpers, not sure on condition, you can come have a look if you're interested.

You fancy a bit of a drive soon? I wanna compare project storm greys! Theres no meets or owt round our end really is there so i reckon a bit of sociodubbing wouldn't go amiss? Let me know if you're game mate! If you know any more dubbers bring them along too!

Also, if you're struggling for bolts, jack penningtons in shipley will find/create some for you, my firm have an account there so VAT free to you + some discount maybe (not sure whether we get discount there but chances are we get a bit)

Yea mate would be good! I haven't done anything yet still waiting for it to go into bodyshop been bumped back yet again lol 5th December I will be insured with brentacre and also that's when I'm hoping to add my stash of mods lol

sounds good mate just trying to source some spacers on the cheap as the mods budget is abit low ATM but yea if you could price up some bolts for now that would be great if that's ok? I need some m12x1.5 31 mm long with 60 degree taper seat, 17mm head, how's the matt blacking coming along?

Cheers for that!

i may have already been mentioned but what is the size of a standard wheel bolt for a 6n polo?

only cos I'm needing longer bolts cos i only have a few mm of thread locked into the hub?

cheers

standard have 23.5mm long thread (well my steelies do anyways)

ok so I'm now confused after taking some measurements, i took a bolt out of my steelies put it in the spare steel i have and measured the length of the thread that would go into the hub, now i noticed that the bolt holes are raised slightly from the back of the wheel, so i took my measurement from the back of the wheel and its 17mm so thats 6mm unused thread (so basically making my steelies 6mm thick for ease), now i need to work out the thickness of my alloys 10mm plus 17mm to keep it nice and secure, so 27mm thread (this is without any spacers so far)!

to double check this i did the simple sum of, 10mm (alloy thickness) minus 6mm (steelie thick) equals....Yes you guessed it 4mm

secondly if you take the 23mm (standard bolt) add 4mm for the extra 4mm thickness difference that is 27mm!!!

this means all my other calculations are wrong???

Edited by Pepe

I make it 27.5 + spacer size

  • Author

Lol yea I just left that out dint think it would make that much difference??

Ha ye I'm just a number geek! no difference at all i dont think! Were you in harden the other day? (see you've been spotted section)

I no this has nothing to do with the topic but i see danny6n and pepe have these pixel images for their avatar....

Would one of you to be able to sort one out for me? of if you know anyone that could do one for me... please?

I can supply a pic to go by obviously..

Cheers

He stole mine! and downgraded the bumpers lol! Only jokin Pep i'm not bothered! Now I would promise to do you one but i already said I'd do some other guy a green one about a month ago and still haven't got round to it, so I'll say yes but dont hold your breath! Also yours is black so might not look right with the lines/grills being black too, I'll have to make them dark grey or summat, need to update mine anyhow as the front end is now black!

i to would like to know this.

haha awww lets not fight now...

Okie dokie, if you could that would be rock 'n' roll

Yea, well its dark blue, oh right well all i would like is 3 bumper grilles, standard headlights, amber indicators and excessive front camber.....

Thanks :D

x

It will be excessive camber, pixel art is kind of restrictive when it comes to clean diagonals.. All or nothing kind of thing. Try doing your own, just nick my picture and copy it into paint, then zoom 800x or whatever the highest is, then change each pixel one at a time with the pencil tool..

Oh dang...

Okay as long as it looks 8-)
