I don't know how some people can get everything Re-trimmed/sprayed/polished all by someone else, then bolt it onto their car and claim they built it, as if they've done everything themselves. I know people have different understanding of the "built not bought" thing, but really is bolting some wheels onto your car and lowering it really building it? I'd say no.

Also... Babz, how'd you manage to afford to get all that work done at just 17/18? Rich rents or good job? haha

Maybe that's why it got featured? For being different to what they normally have in there? On the other hand, it sounds like it was an absolute hit at UD so the editors would be in some way obliged to do a feature on it, clearly it's something the public likes :).

See that is why I don't buy mags that often... cos most of the cars featured are ridiculous... crazy mods or crazy money which are show cars. I prefer looking at well modded every day cars which people use... that may have a bit of dirt under the bay and may have the odd mark. Realistic cars.

This shit about bought not built is a load of shite. So if buying parts for my car and fitting them isn't right am I allowed to BUY a nice house??? Or do I have to build it?

Good lad! If I had of had my polo before I booked my holiday I wouldn't of gone! That could of been my wheels and respray sorted!

@ Dan - From a mag point of view, Babz's car is feature worthy because it's current (clean styling, bright colours), nicely styled and affordable. It's been really simply styled but hangs together really well, plus up close the work is really well carried out. Plus with Babz being a student it's a good story, it's not a big budget cheque book car. It's also really different, I can't think of any other Polo quite like it. It's got that certain something. Hopefully that'll answer the question :)

There's no real pattern to what makes a good feature car. Some get in because they're famous, others have great stories behind them, some are just epic no-limit builds that people can take inspiration from, and the rest are just cool cars with well thought out mods. Different people have different tastes.

The only reason we featured it is Babz went with Fast Car first. So, by the time we had it in our mag it would've been seen in two others. That's great for the owner, but who wants to buy a mag with a car they've seen elsewhere? It's not Golf+ that bothers us, but Fast Car competes for pretty much the same readership we do. If they've already featured it, we'd be covering the same ground. It's a shame, because it's a cool car.

This means we feature a massive cross-section of cars all across the spectrum, catering for all tastes. And from the cleanest Euro hatch to the wildest looking Jap muscle around we can't please everyone with every car, we don't aim to either. The idea is there'll be bits you can cherry pick from all of them, whether you like the car as a whole or not. I genuinely think we've got a very good selection in the mag at the moment, though by my own admission we're less focused on the V-Dub/Euro scene than Fast Car. It gets a proportionate representation in our pages, we have Euro cars in every issue but not on every single cover.

Photography wise though, going back about four pages, we use some of the same snappers as Fast Car. The ones we don't share with them are the big names in the business, people who shoot for mags like Top Gear, Evo and Car. So I don't get the poor quality photography thing, but I guess that's all personal taste.

I'm guessing you quite a bit older than me and had your car for a few years now where I've only had it for 1.5 years !!! i think a lot of people respect me for that....and to note I'm not rich!!

tbh i have no interest in this argument of whether your car is worthy of a feature, props to you for getting a feature and for building the car how you like it...

BUT, now your just going on like some little kid trying to throw the fact you have got your car featured in peoples faces, so what if you have a feature, it doesn't make your car better than some one else's. dan was saying he didn't think your car was worthy of a feature which is his opinion, why does some ones opinion offend you so much? surely you built this car for you and not for other people? there isn't one car on this planet that every one loves, just because some one doesn't like a car it doesn't mean they are a hater, it just means the car isn't to there taste.
