Righto then folks, after getting ridiculous quotes for having the arches rolled on my Golf, i decided to bite the bullet and buy my own. I looked at a few, and settled on one made by a small engineering firm in Norfolk. It will do pretty much all 4 stud and 5 stud cars, and all number of P.C.D's, and i will include a copy of the orignal instructions given to me by the fella at the workshop, as a guide to rolling and flaring your arches.

I only went as far as rolling my arches, as i was only trying to clear a modest 7". But i am sure it would have no problem flaring too, aslong as the instructions are followed properly. The only problem i had was that to start with my rear was too low (coilovers wound alllll the way down) this just meant i couldnt extend the arm fully, once i had raised it, it pissed it. I did both passenger side arches in a day, i took my time, and used plenty of heat and drank plenty of tea, with an early start i'm sure all 4 could be done in a day.

So if you fancy a go at rolling your owns arches, or just always do the work on your cars yourself or don't fancy spunking a wedge on a pro doing it, this might be of interest to you. Obviously the recommended way is to use heat, as it makes the arches easier to roll, but if you borrow this, use heat and put a bit much on, i.e bubble the paint, its not my fault! You use this on your own head!

Right money wise, i was thinking £30 a day, so with an early start you could roll all your arches in a day for £30, which as anyone who has looked into it, will kno, thats a good deal! Similarly if you want it longer, would call it £15 a day there after, so £45 for a weekend. Billy Bargain! Or a deal on a whole week! Being sensible tho, if you want to borrow it, the money will have to be up front, i will need a contact number, contact address and some form of deposit, i wouldn't be a know about it getting scuffed etc, its a tool that wouldn't matter, but obviuosly if you just chuff off with it, it cost me a lot more than i'd be renting it for, so i'd be out of pocket. I'm thinking £50 deposit on top of the rental which you will get back on return of the roller!

I'm not looking to make a business of it, but its a nice tool, sitting there doing nothing, so i thought, i could make a few quid back, and possibly help a few others get there arches rolled on the cheap. So i won't be fucked about, if it gets shitty, i'll just knock it on the head.

there very fair prices mate, one thing i would suggest though is to take a deposit when hiring it out. most places do this when hiring stuff just to cover there backs in case it get broken or "lost" during the hire period

Tbh mate being in Birmingham I'd be more inclined to come there and get you to do the arches with me :).

get onto indy, he wanted his doing but couldn't make the date and i beleive he's at uni in birmingham...

Also prices are very fair - free bump for that!

i thought rolling arches was a quickish job and dint cost too much at a garage...I'm sure iv heard 10 quid an arch..but reading this i think I'm wrong.would you be able to help me out on this though as i wudnt want to fuk it up

First thing i will say, is I wont be doing any arches, at the minute i barely have time to do my own motors, so i'm not saying it to be dickish, it just wouldn't be possible. Obviuosly people would have to collect and return etc, but each one could be tailored to suit, to be honest most likely could probably be on a week basis, or 6 days, for £60 or something. As i said i'm not starting a business, its just a nice tool that isnt being used at the minute, but not something that i'd contemplate selling, after forking out for it. If i can claw a few quid back, and help a couple others out, its all round! So if anyone fancies it, fly me a pm, it can be an immediate thing or if you wanted to chat about it in the future.

Unfortunately it would appear that i'm proper shit at taking pictures, but here is just a few of my golf, that i bought the arch roller to do. There shit angles, and shit pictures, but hopefully you'll get the idea, and see how I rolled the arches to clear my wheels. And also just a couple of pictures of the tool itself.

could very well be interested in this,just a quick question though.. it just rolls the inner lip in doesnt it, it doesnt pull out the arch aswell does it?

It can go as far as you want Dave, as you can see, i just folded the lip flat, and very gently pulled them out a touch, it is capable of going as far as flaring the arches, if you spend the time to do it. I have a full set of instructions with it, that i will get copied and included with the rental.

Whats the chances of the paint cracking when rolling the arches...

depends how far you go mate

heating the paint and just rolling the lip flat. With good paint and no rust, In most cases wont crack

but its a never say never thing.

Sounds very interesting. I'm not sure if I could plunge the risk or not though! I'll have a word with a few mates and see if I can find a test car. Maybe in touch mate.

As Neil said, there is a chance, and i'd say, if your that worried probably better to get a pro to do it! From what i found out tho, They just get you to sign a sheet saying if it happens, it happens, but obviously they would be less likely to get anything wrong! I found it fairly easy, as i heated the arches quite alot, this warms both the paint and metal making it easier to roll, but you have to be careful, as you could go too far with the heat!
