Id have to polo outta all of them anyday...

wow he looks young there

and I'd have the 106 out of them tbh

106 for me

love him thrashing the saxo lol

why would some1 even compare a polo to the rest? :retard:

106 for me aswell, I know this is a polo forum but we all know for speed and fun from the word go the polo is as clarkson said, the worst.

He did say normal polos are very good tho and built to a better standard 8-)

this actually makes me really want a french pram!

sliding that saxo about looks pretty fun ;)

Haha he isn't wrong.. If you wanted a hot hatch you'd buy the 106 hands down.

The Punto and the Polo are in a different league to the 106 and Saxo

I'm still tempted to buy the 106 Quicksilver from where i work, apparently it's like a go-cart :ninja:

ah man i was kinda gettin to like my mates VTR coz it reminded me a bit of my old GT polo [but slower :p] but then i remembered why i think french cars are shit when it turned out the bottom half of the passenger side rear damper had just fallen off and was dangling under the car

id have the polo 16v out of the choice anyday. that way you get a car with reasonable pace, but not shit. imo

Can't watch the video being at work but all i know is that 106 GTi are excellent for the dollar. Really are like go karts.

My friend had one and it raped another friends lupo GTi.

**edit due to raped being a little strong. Mildly sodomised is more fitting :-)

I have a massive soft spot for 106 GTIs. I just think they look a hell of a lot better than the Polo 16V both inside and out. Plus there is more bang for your buck. My mate has one and it seems like its really easy to get them to be really quick. Mmmmmmmm.

Bit stupid comparing the Polo 16v to a GTi or VTS...

Also the half leather interior is really nice in 106 Gti :-) Really simple inside too and my friends never let him down so the usual VW build quality (myth) excuses don't really mean much here :-)

The gearboxes aren't held together with pritstick either.

Saxos are just utter gash though. When you close the doors on them it feels like you are closing a breadbin. I felt so unsafe when i got one as a courtesy car from the exhaust place.

I'd much prefer a 106, there's one that goes up Cannocks near me sometimes..

Yellow, black Compomotive MO5's, debadged/smoothed grille, black Cobra buckets, such a nice car..

even though they are the same car pretty much with different badges?

and its not stupid comparing a 16v to a GTI

top spec models of small euroboxes which at the time were similar price, seems a fair comparison to me

Even though...... I don't think it helped that the saxo i drove was the courtesy car from longlife exhausts and was definitely bottom of the barrel regards spec. Also that car can't have had a very nice life being raped every single day by barrys taking it out while their car gets a bean can fitted.

I should really reserve judgement but that thing scared me and then scarred me :-)

106 looks better in any guise though.

It should be a fair comparison, but it isnt, VW's fault tbh...

In terms of performance, handling and sheer driving fun I'd have picked the 106 GTi over the 16v Polo every time.

i dont really like french cars but after watching that saxo being thrown around like that i would definetly be tempted, shame VW didnt bring the 6n GTI to england because it would have wooped all of them in my opinion!

"The 6n GTI, a 1.6 16V 120 bhp unit it was said that the

car would sprint to 60 mph in 9.1 seconds, whilst top speed was a claimed 120 mph"

The saxo 0-60 is 7.2 and top speed 127mph

Yeah but even Clarkson said it's cause the Saxo has a really long 2nd gear so you dont need another gear change to hit 60..

And the Saxo's are light as fuck..

lol at the polo " u dont use a stopwatch to measure this cars acceleration, u use a calendar" 106 is much more fun until it starts to fall apart

And the Polo's great until it starts rusting...

None of them are really good overall cars, they serve a purpose, some better than others...

should have had an ibiza cupra/gti in the mix rather than the polo. the uk mk4 was never intended to be sporty. the 16v polo is just a mildly bodykit'd (the bumpers were an optional extra part on the 1.6 glx the 16v replaced) and spec'd up mk4 anyhow with an engine that probably should have been fitted to most of the range instead of a gutless 1.4 8v.
