Jeremy is a LEGEND, but....

nah they're 1.6 8v, think they're like 104bhp or something off the top of my head. defo cooler than the chavbox GTIs but still wouldnt own a 106 out of personal principle.

if you want a "fast" car then imo a 1.6 16v car is a bad start

The Rallye is fitted with a high performance TU5J2 1587cc 8v engine that is a slightly more tuned version of the earlier 106 1.6 XSi engine also fitted to some Peugeot 306 models. This engine is unique to the Rallye and is not fitted to any other Peugeot model. It produces 103bhp at 6200rpm and gives 97lbs/ft of torque at 3500rpm.

Your right :)

a lad who used to live 2 doors down from my old house had a mint pug GTI

me and my mate chased him numerous times in our old GTs

he obv stayed in front but he wasnt blitzing me like all the hype on the internet about them. couldnt help but laugh.

that means absolutely nothing though

i chased an evo through the lanes about a week ago and stuck to his ass, does that mean that my 1.6 td with about 80 bhp is faster than an evo 8?

it wouldnt mean much, except it was repeated in different GTs and we knew him so we knew he was trying.

either way, people on the internet give extreme views one way or another. either absolutely shit or "OMFGZZZFUCKINAMAZINCAR"

gets on my tits

well if the saxo vts/106 gti are so good why do the people who bum them not own them?

Insurance is a bitch, you look like every other chav an his dog, they'll fall apart, chances are they've all been ragged through their lives...

They are good power (for a small car) and handling wise though!

Depends how far your willing to go, and if you value your life

there are so many variables when you have a race with some one that all these 'i raced some one in a xxx and hammered it' kinda quote's are meaningless, no matter how many times you raced it. for starters you may be a better driver than him, you may have bigger balls than him, you may be more of an enthusiastic driver than him ect ect...

I discount all claims. As generally anyone who starts a sentance with 'I raced this bloke...' is generally about to spout somthing that that have made up or are greatly exaggerating. The only time it means anything is on the motorway or a dual carriageway etc, and you know that the other bloke is flooring it, corner to corner means dick all.

i completely agree wit Clarkson,

in all honesty the 16v is pretty poor. It aint fast, dont handle well, and looks the worst outs all of those cars!

I doubt anyone on here can honestly say they'd rather the polo than any of those other cars, coz ud be lying! lol

.....

I would rather own a Polo over any of those cars.

And the reason I'm not lying, is because I actually went out and bought a Polo :shock:

or is it that you couldnt afford to insure a 120bhp hot hatch?????????

Could/can afford any of those cars and the insurance.

16v's are group 10 mate, they're not exactly piss cheap to insure yet I still bought one as my first car.

No regrets, at all.

The Saxo and 106 are both better hot hatches than the 16V Polo, who gives a shit if they'll fall apart. Mk1 Golfs aren't that well built, neither are 205 GTIs, but they're both much more fun than a Valver. And nobody with a Mk3 Polo should criticise French cars for build quality tbh, pot and kettle etc... :)

my first car was a 6N2 16v S and that was piss poor, think it was only 75 bhp or somin, but handled like a bag of poo

You must have been pretty wounded the day a saxo vts handed your ass to you on a plate, or have you still got that to come yet lol

na drew not a VTS, a VTR ul do it

Driven a 205 GTi and, while cooler than any of the above, the build quality was frankly comical.

Shame really because it was a fun car, and in a way the fragile feel to it made it seem more exciting.

No Polo is reknown for good handling, but uprating the suspension isn't difficult :-)

Had this conversation before on here. I leave VTS' alone :p

VTR's don't get away though, speaking from experience.

Id have the 106 anyday, I've driven a Quicksilver and there soo go-karty like is sooooo fun,

My dads 1.6glx just doesnt feels the same round bends and the accelertion :S

"You dont use a stop watch you use a calender" haha,

if you buy any hot hatch for build quality then your buying it for entirely the wrong reason, they are all about having fun.

Indeed, forget practicality, insurance, economy and build quality its about how they feel and go!

In which case the polo will prob loose out (have never been in either the others) but from what i hear they would probably be more fun, not as good day to day use but a HOT hatch is not for that purpose

A std 106 GTI would be quicker than a std G40. So I don't know how a std GT would be anywhere near it. Unless the GT in question has a few mods.

Anyway, who cares. If you own a 16v 6n because it's a quick, good handling hot hatch then you bought the wrong car.... shimples.
