Spent nearly a £100 on cleaning products in the last two days for a MK3 Polo with a dented wing with rust and a dented boot :(

Bpught some DoDo juice wax, DoDo juice car shampoo, Bilt Hamber claybar and Menzerma cutting compound!

I know I should feel happy but its a bog standard Polo

That reminded me of the Top gear episode were they all pretended to be 17 and get cars, When James stent ages on polising that scratch and it didnt come out

Even though they may be right dude, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure everyone on here has needlessly spent loads of money on their car at some point, either through lack of knowledge or plainly because they couldn't help it!

Cars are moneypits - end of!

Just live and learn, and at least next time you shall know what to do.. and you can pass on your experiences to others!

I once spent £100 in fuel in 2 days, my car was running rough as fook but i needed to get around

£380 on 1.0 6n

£230 on new wishbone, front pads, rear shoes, new handbrake cable, re-wire horn

£40 new offside sill

£110 welding new offside sill

£95 new track rod end, front n/s bearing, n/s ball joint

£45 new driveshaft

= £900

still in need of steering rack replacement, need to get tracking done again, got an eratic idling problem but can't figure the cause, need to change oil and filter, need a new alternator belt and i want to change the cambelt soon (88555 miles on the clock, and it hasnt been changed)

£120 a month insurance (£85 a month on a 306 1.6 as my first car? , paying more, for less than half the power!???)

cars are expensive, i've learned my lesson, dont buy a banger!

£300 on MOT

£1500 on 1.6 polo in mint condition (wrote this car off)

£700 on 1.4 SE

though I've made most of my money back in some of the cases...this is all within the last 2 years and I've been unemployed for 8 months =(

No no no,you're all doing it wrong. The idea is to sell the car for more than you paid for it,by the margin of its costs. That way,the entire ownership is free.

A good example was my '99 Seicento Sporting. I paid £1900 for it in '02 and drove 10k miles in it over the following six months. I then sold it for £2700. It paid me all the costs to drive it,earning its insurance/petrol/mot/tax/front tyres.

Cheap cars have been the same - i did nothing to the Scirocco in the year i had it,but for cleaning it up,yet bought it for £300 and sold it for over double.

You've got to buy a good one though,there's no use ploughing money into a shed.

Theres some things money cant buy...... but for everything else, theres taking out a ridiculous loan :p
