15" Steel rims for 9N

Featured Replies

Hello everybody, not been on here in donkey's years after not having a car for a few years, but I need some advice.

All 4 tyres on my 9N are close to being replaced and I thought it would be a good time to upgrade to some larger wider steelies to improve handling and ensure the car doesn't wildly understeer at 15mph on wet roundabouts.

I want some 15" but I don't know about width, I'm looking at 205's for the tyres, is that usually a good fit on 7.5" wide rims? (I don't want them stretched, just a nice fit)

Also, what are the hub dimensions - I seem to remember they're 5*100?? and what about the offset?

Is there a particular car that I'd be able to find with them on in a scrappy? a passat or a golf maybe?

I hope your all still friendly, and thanks in advance!

i wouldnt go 15's dude, they wont look amazing and you wont be able to go too low!

yardy yardy you!!!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^

Your right, 9n's are 5 x 100 so you'd probably be looking at something off mk4 golf/bora/passat. They came with 15" steels and are also 5x100 fitment.

Hope this helps in your search dude and welcome back :D

thanks, I don't want to lower it or go for looks, just improve the grip a bit. It's just a run about until I save my pennies for something a little more fun! What width would take 195/205's?

Not a Passat, they are 5 x 112 like an A4. Golf 4, Bora, A3 mk1, Leon mk1 are all 5 x 100. Not sure about offset, if your scrapy's friendly you should be able to try them on before parting with your cash!

Top notch! Thanks for your help!

I could be wrong but I think you'll struggle to find steel wheels in 5x100 over 6.5" wide that haven't been banded.

Might be a better idea just to look for some cheap alloys that are that wide.

I've run 6.5" wide wheels with decent tyres (£45 a corner) and think the handling is adequate for the car.

If you're understeering at 15mph even on a piss wet through roundabout, don't know if you're exaggerating, then there's something seriously wrong.

i think bora steels might be 7j... dont take my word on that though.

Did you use 195's on the 6.5's?

Maybe I'm exaggerating a little :-D there's nothing wrong with the car, just the skinny tyres!
