Idles ok, but puls like it's on 3 ( 1.4 8v )

Featured Replies

My m8 brought round his 96 1.4 8V last night as it's not running right.

She idles OKish. But when you accelerate it's like shes not running on all 4.

We did the water pump 8 weeks ago so one of my suspicions was that the cambelt may have jumped a tooth. But the tension seems reasonable and the marks look to be OK ( but I don;t have the data for how EXACTLY they should be aligned.

Has anyone got a diagram of the 1.4 8V static timing marks so I can check again.

I swapped out all the plugs, rotor and dizzy cap from my GT powered MK1 golf and that has not made any difference. So the only remaining ignition components are the coil, leads etc.

Is there a vag-com port somwhere that I can plug the laptop into?

Cheers

Anyone???

Does anyone on here actually know anything????

Anyway, after finding some info deep down in google. And an hour striping down. I confirmed the timing was BOB on. Which was good to know.

After putting back together I ran it up and pulled the injector plugs one by one.. All affected running till #4

My attention returned to the Ignition, I replaced the HT lead on plug 4 and she runs sweet again.

Glad I rechecked the timing, even though it was 8pm on my drive with just a lead lamp..

Cheers...

It's my m8's car ( although I have now told him that I am having it when he gets rid ) but he's lent it to his employee who's car has also got issues... So without it they are both stuck unable to get to customers...

Anyway... My Mk1 golf is now missing plugs leads and a dizzy cap :| but M8 will be paying for nice shiney new ones. ;)

I need to get 2 more bottom pully bolts for the polo as they seem to be made from some sort of super soft alloy that rounds of after 2 uses!!

I realy should have stuck with my hunch on the Ignition :? especial as I prety much had exactly the same just 2 weeks ago on my 24V Mondeo... That was just crappy old plugs.

This little 6N is a hoot to drive though, the 1.4 is quite perky ( good news for my MK1 golf as I have just put a 3F GT lump in it to replace the old HK carbed one ) , and it's sitting on Coilies and the nice Polo GTi Split-rim BBS's :D
