Toyota Starlet Glanza V

Featured Replies

Well i'd decided to sell the Polo up after about 16 months of ownership and get something quicker.. i got bitten by the Jap bug and decided to look for a Glanza as I've always liked them..

Basically this is the JDM-only model of the Toyota Starlet (EP91 chassis) called the Glanza V.. 1.3 16v Turbo engine, factory bodykit etc.. 133bhp standard..

Totally standard, immaculate condition, 52k miles, FTSH, full T&T, Toad cat 1 etc... picked it up from Bristol tuesday night, now I've gotta wait til 18th Dec to insure it lol...

Gave it a clean yesterday, still needs claying, machine polishing etc but not until i can get it out of the rain, anywho, pics....

First modification so far....

The Glanza has a Hi/Lo turbo button, that limits the boost from 133bhp to 113bhp.. but, the solenoid is set so that gears 1 and 2 are always in LO boost, which cripples the 0-60, so as soon as i got it home (about 10:40pm) i set about resolving this issue :D

Not my picture, but this shows how easy it was to do lol...

Tested it out in the street and oh my god it pulls well :D

Gave it a clean while it stopped raining for a few hours.. full interior clean, engine bay detail, and basic wash (snow foam, 2 bucket wash etc..), the paints spotless but i still need to get it properly shiny and waxed up...

I thought that was the obvious one lol, and you should man..

Do all Glanza's have that boost controller thing then?

  • Author

Yep, all Glanzas, but not the older version (GT Turbo).. literally a 30 second fix though..

Then when you start upgrading, with an adjustable actuator and electronic boost controller (around £300 for both) you can just switch boost levels whenever..

All in good time man, got a few necessities to buy first then i'll 'stage 1' the engine.. manifold, decat, cat-back, FMIC, relocated filter, uprated actuator set to 12psi (currently running 9psi)..

That's about £600 worth but should see 160bhp...

Love these! Nearly bought one at one point but for some reason didn't! Looking forward to the progression of this :)

Awesome bet you can't wait, I do love these also have a spot for the Nissan gtir's, look forward to the progress dude.

cool car dude!

Cool car, i very nearly bought one but the insurance companies shat on that bonfire :( good luck getting yours insured properly.

Fear not Pleb ;)

That was the only thing holding me back.. Elephant would insure me on the older GT Turbo for like 1200 but they dont even list the Glanza, and loads of the ones for sale are registered as non-turbo base models (illegal) to lower the insurance...

But i got in touch with Sky Insurance and they managed to find some random company that would insure me legit for less than I'm paying on the Polo now, kinda the reason why i keep plugging Sky lol...

I'm with Sky myself, there pretty decent (for an insurance company at least lol) Plans sound good dude, first and foremost get it on the road and just enjoy it as it is atm :) aswell as these I also LOVE the Daihatsu Charades! It's all about underdogged small engines whooping big cars asses lol!

I think a Charade lump would be rather fun in the Bready lol!
