G40 Charger

Featured Replies

For sale is the G-Lader Charger from my G40 engine.

Can't remember how many miles it had done when the engine was taken from the car but the seller told me it needed a rebuild soon. Looks alright, you can take the belts too if you want.

I'm looking for £100, i need the funds! I'm located in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

Price edited accordingly :)

I'll give you £30 + pnp if you want a quick sale.

dont let anyone mug you, if its in working condition but requires a rebuild its easilly worth £100, if not a touch more.

think i payed £140 for my spare which was working but in need of a service.

a diy rebuild kit cost around £160, so its still cheaper than sending it away for a rebuild.

serviced charger fetch £350 upwards

i can supply these as advertised through club g40... If you do rebuild yourself - stay away from cheapo kits!!! please!!!

which are the cheapo kits? who sells them and why are they to be avoided?

cheapo kits are normally on ebay -

Bearings - they often cut costs by supplying an end bearing with a plastic cage - oem is brass cage and rated for temperature approx 100degrees higher. (difference in net price on these is like £6 as opposed to £35!) I use OEM spec apart from the centre bearing, which they don't produce anymore - I use an IKO bearing which is what PSD used and was in a g-werks charger I took apart.

Oil seals - most decent kits have viton oil seals, some places cut costs by supplying nitrile seals, which aren't rated for as high pressures or heats, therefore not as longer lasting. I use same spec as g-werks, psd used.

Apex seals - in my opinion the most important part of a charger, too hard a compound and it wears the charger prematurely, too soft and it wears out and you get a grinding paste in your charger - so you need to know these have been properly specced. I get mine from the company that made them for vw 1993 onwards and use their compound and specs - they come from austria and cost much more than the apex seals you get on ebay.

Whilst cheap stuff might work, a charger is something you ought to try your best to look after!

So I'd only recommend trusted stuff!

Cheers for the help guys, i've had quite a few PMs on this one so i'll reply to them this evening.

£30.... Deal. Not.

if i had the cash i would take this off your hands and put it on my mk2 coupe.

To be fair, that's a fucking insult.

Thought the charger was buggered and needed a rebuild, no need to get touchy... £100 is a bit much for me atm, especially as I'm only running a 1l and would need other bits to make use of it... although I will keep an eye on this ;).

lol

where does it say this is buggered? I'm confused now!

You would need a fair few other bits too like the rest of the engine and running gear

any pics?

it will look like a G40 supercharger

perhaps they just want proof it exists. i know if i were to spend anything over about a tenner i'd want to see pics of the item. its not like people havnt been scammed on cp before is it.

(not saying that nev would do anything like that btw)

It's possible to supercharge a 1l though :). Don't know what other parts I'd need though (to stop it going bang) :(.
