hi, not actually got a polo(yet) but just wondering when people buy small wheels and fit small tyres to lower the car etc.... surely that would increase the amount of rpm the wheel does at 30mph for example and then the speedo shows more e.g. 40mph on the guage? or am i a total noob?

Now if you get some 13" alloys with a 175/50 tyre on so you can lower it without any scrubbing issues then your speedo will read higher than what speed your actually travelling at.

if you swapped a 6ns standard 195/45/15 for 185/45/13 for example, your speedo would read 110.7 mph at 100mph

or is is just the price you have to pay for lowness??? anyone ever changed the clocks for the ones off another car before so that they match the wheels???

It will only work out as 2 or 3 miles more for every hundred miles unless you go for a very different rolling radius.

All speedos have errors anyway, for all you know yours could be underreading and reducing the rolling radius would reduce the error.

Yes it reads wrong and yes it does increase your mileage quicker than you think your going.

thats for a mk4 polo, mk3's come with 13 inch wheels standard just with balloon tyres... anyone

most speedo's r out by around 10% anyway, not all cars but most r. :)

Best way to check is use a gps/ satnav which will give you a more correct reading with your dash.

Width of tyre has nothing to do with speedo being out its the depth/aspect ratio that changes speedo.

get to car running that setup and the speedo will read the same, it would read the same with 5.5J or 10J.

change width + keep 45 aspect ratio = different sidewall height, as the aspect is a percentage of width.

I also changed the wheel size if you look.
