My mk4 Project

Featured Replies

Well noticed people using this for project so just thought i would start one :). i bought my first car yesterday its a mk4 polo 1996 n reg its done just over 96k miles, a 1.4 8v. Bought it for £150 as its been in a front end smash up, not really all that bad if I'm really honist not really had a look though. I needed a car for my college project and thought why not give this a go. Basically I'm looking for any advice you guys have got for me along the way. Thinking of going euro on it as my mates got a really nice one just abit younger. i will post some pics of it tomoz some time. cheers

that'll tcut out mate! looks like a good project, doesnt look too badly bent

that'll tcut out mate!

My chassis leg was bent like that when i crashed, it was pretty easy to straighten out though. I've never seen colour coded handles on a white one before ,they look alright, think I may do mine when i fill the dents and stuff over xmas.

Just been round and trial fitted my new slam panel but the bonnet does not shut flush and is slightly risen :( does anybody know what could be causing this? i think it could just be hitting the top of the slam panel but its fitted in the right place so.... :S

Sorry to dissapoint but you won't get 120mm on a 6N without chopping out chunks of your chassis, 100mm absolute max I'd say and your driveshaft will be rubbing at that. Just saying so you don't see the '-120mm' shit on coilover kits as a selling point, might as well get some that only claim -100 if they're more suited to your needs/price range.

edit: you've probably already tried but there's two plastic screw in stoppers on either side under the bonnet, try screwing these in further to make the bonnet sit flush..

O rite cheers for that them mate really wanna go as low as possible in this but shall see what happens at the time, more focused on sorting out the front end damage at the moment so...

and ye i tryed that one i actually took them out to see that was stopping it and still seems to be catching. From what i can see it is catching at the top of the slam panel just above the bonnet catch. And also i dont have the bonnet catch on at the moment do you think this could be any problem?

just bin round and installed abit of "ice" fitted a kenwood stereo, some pioneer door speakers and some lanzar 4" with built in tweeters into the dash all in all sounds alright better than the stock ones, all i need i need know is a boot build but dont wanna go for the simple sub in a box want something thats not bin done before, any ideas? also had the slam panel off again so i can sort out the chassis leg.

well not really much of an update because i dont have any pictures but will get some up at some point, got a fair bit done tho, got new slam panel and radiator off to sort my chassis arm back

and put it all back on, jacked all up and then "slammed" on breeze blocks ready for me spraying the calipers and drums, took the bumpstrips off but by this time it was dark so will get some pics

of it all when i go to take the crap off from the bumpstrips. also got a induction air filter for it today but need a pipe going from the inlet to the induction so that needs sortin at some point.

well not updated this recently so here goes

not really been too busy on the car due to weather and money issues have stopped work as I'm a student

firstly seen a thread on here about clean engine and whats in the oil filler cap

and mine just crap

2010-01-04154051.jpg

2010-01-04154100.jpg

to me that looks like a fucked engine

cadburys choclate or something in there

I've had the slam panel on over the winter and didnt put anti freeze in with the water (no i didnt start it)

2010-01-04161845.jpg

and back off to let the water freeze

2010-01-04161803.jpg

started to take everything out the engine bay bar the engine itself for a clean up

2010-01-25133008.jpg

and now the probly main reason i dont have no money to sort the front end out

I'm too botherd about the sound system

so these arrived today

2010-02-02141931.jpg

also started making a boot build

but starting to consider stripping the back seats and having mdf straight through

but then i want to have full leather interior somewere near the summer

all in all though gettin there, very slowly

comment and criticism welcome
