Does anyone have any ideas as to why my Polo is running rough? After starting it's always cut out when revs are low, but after a few minutes when it's warmed up it's fine. The main problem is that over the last week, sometimes on acceleration there have been odd moments when it's kind of stuttered/had jerky moments.

Then on Saturday the battery had died and I swapped the spark-plugs over to from the NGK ones (they looked ok though) to some Bosch super 4 that had been used for a couple of months. Anyway, I swapped the battery over last night and of course the car was pretty iced up this morning. On the work today it's running even worse and the power seems down on acceleration all the time. Can't be the plug leads as they were new 8 months ago, can't be the plugs (well not the jerky movements, not sure if it's running worse this morning if for some reason it doesn't like the bosh plugs?), had a new distributor as well. Can't remember if it had a new coil or not? Think I had fitted one, then found out that it was the distributor, so took the coil back off. What else could it be?

Will put some injector cleaner in the fuel tank when I next fill up with petrol and will do an oil & oil filter change in the next few days (though of course the oil & filter won't make any difference). Could it be the fuel filter? Seems that that isn't in the engine bay though, so not sure where it is?!

look under the back just above the axle you will see the fuel filter ....

try some carb cleaner too remove the air filter and have a look mine was carboned right up.

Don't rule out the plug leads, i once bought a set that were dreadful. I would have the car cut out at 70mph in the fast lane.

look for vacuum leaks.

is this the multi point injection? if so, pull off each injector connector in turn and see if it affects the running. this will help determine if it's a single cylinder or all of them.

It's kinda tricky deciding what to do! I'll check the plugs, inspect the leads, injector connectors and check the air-filter although that shouldn't be too bad as it's only done 7k miles since it eas last changed. Been told it could be the throttle body, but I don't really want to change thr throttle body or plug leads if it isn't them! What kinda probs do you get if the coil is playing up?
