When your car is serviced at a non-vw garage or at home by yourslef, the ecu doesnt know its had a service, so the service indicator stays on. To reset it:

-(with the ignition off and keys out) press and hold the mile reset button

-turn ignition on

-wait until the display goes like '--'

-turn ignition off and keys out and release button

viola :)

Doesn't seem to work on mine.... :(

My hanes says 98< polo's can only be reset by vw (or somebody with the right kit) Doing the button combo won't work. Annoying huh

IN01 -inspection service

Switch ignition ON

Press and hold button (A left) under speedo

Switch ignition OFF

Release button

Press and release button A (left)

The letter "IN01" will appear in the odometer display of the speedometer.

Press clock minute button B until "-----" appears in the display

Press button A (left) to display "OEL"

Press button B to display "-----"

Switch ignition on until the letters "IN00" appear in the display

I have instructions for Oil service (OEL) and IN02 inspection service if this doesn't work. :)

No, on all mk4 u can DIY, on another buttoncombination.... take this german text from my homepage and translate it, the mk5 service display needs it to vag com, not the mk4.

This is from the haynes manual for my 95 mk4 polo.

i have done this and it works.

Up to 1998 model year

1 Before resetting the service interval display, make sure the mileometer is displaying the total mileage, and is not in trip mode.  Briefly pressing the button to the left of the speedometer will switch the display between total and trip.  Note: If the button is pressed and held for longer then one second while in trip mode, the trip meter will be zeroed.

2 Switch on the ignition (do not start the engine).  Press and hold the button to the left of the speedometer.

3 Switch off the igniton, then release the button.  The display should now read OEL.

4 Now press the digital clock lower button on the right-hand side of the instrument panel until five dashes appear on the display.  The OEL service is now reset.

5 By pressing the left-hand button again, the next service interval can be displayed, and then reset by pressing the right-hand button.

6 Reset as many services as necessary, until switching on the ignition only shows IN 00 (no service required) on the display.

K i have a 1999 polo 6n 16v and i can't for the life of me get the oil service thing to reset, i reset it when it was just a service light sometime ago but i can't remeber how, any ideas?

done just have to hold the button for at least 10 seconds

1. reset odometer

2. press and hold button

3. switch on ignition

4. hold until --- is displayed

5. voila

how is this done on mark 5 polo's or isn;t it?

Mk5 needs the VAG COM. Go to a good garage and ask if they will turn it off.

I've just brought a x Reg 2000 Polo Estate E TDI.

My dashboard Display just says 'Service Miles' Then the amount of miles rising.

Anyway to get rid of this?

Yeah I'd like to know that also, mine will come on in a few hundred miles :(

my ones been on for about 700miles, but I'm thinkin 2 service my car so the garage will probably take it off them selves...

also how often does the inspection light come on? does it work mileage wise or when your car actualy needs service, e.g. changing oils n others.

also how much is a fairly decent price for a full service?
