does any one have any experience of either of these?

what sort of price does a full set up generally cost? i've tried looking on the rayvern hydraulics site but they have no prices on there.

with air ride can you just drop it on its arse while your driving down the road?

after seeing a video in another thread with rolo's mk3 golf laying sparks in it its making me wonder if i can afford a set up like that, but alas i know absolutely nothing about either air or hydraulics.

£1400 fully fitted for a basic front/back system is the going rate i got when looking around..

If you're handy you could build a kit yourself for less than a grand, if you just want to drop the car to the floor..

if you want to go mega low you need to speak to the boys at skill customs... they'r based in Marple near Manchester...

what car you wanting done? they've done a mk3 polo and plenty of other dubs on hydro's before...

just noticed you were talking about george... he works at skill customs... he's rockin an old skool civic draggin on dro's atm...

I tend to find people who run the lowest on the move are always on coilovers, but the people who have the lowest stationary cars always have air.

it'd be on my mk1 scirocco (same set up as a mk1 golf), i'm not after hoping and bouncing (i don't think my shell would take it lol) i'm just loving the idea of being able to dump the slag on the deck while i'm moving and lay down some heavy sparks tbh

can air ride do this? is just the cars i've seen with air seem really slow when there doing what they do

Yeah I don't mean bouncing you can't do that on air. You can still get sparks with air though!

If you want sudden drops, then you want hydraulics, but the ride is horrific!

What most people have on their golfs etc is air ride, so a tank in the back filled with air, and then bags on the suspension struts. More air into the bags, higher ride height, less air lower ride etc.

No I mean you couldn't drop it allll the way, unless your wheels were so small that they wouldn't touch anything on full drop or if you had some inner arch work.

Of course you can alter the ride height whether your stationary or moving :)

yeah you can do this.... you wont necessarily be sat on the tyres, as thats down to offsets etc

i wouldn't be doing it to get the tires half a mill away from the arch like they do at shows, just so i can lay some sparks when ever i want.

the video that got me thinking about it...

that's what i wanna do, what would be the best option for doing that? is the ride on hydraulics really that bad?

I've been driving around on my airride set-up for 2 years now, works perfectly, it's originally a GAS-system (best quality ever! Germans need their suspension to be TUV-approved (governmental regulations), so GAS needs to comply to that with their quality, and that is damn high!) , but I've modified my set a lot, only remaining original bits are the struts+airpockets and the GAS gauges

Airride is majorly addictive once you figure out how those systems work, you can add so many features to a basic kit, it's like Lego when you were 8

i've still got a big collection of lego

so is it possible to use air to do what i want or would hydraulics be the only real option for me? also are hydraulics more expensive?

how does the air work? - i know about the bags on the suspension, How does the tank charge?

does it leak or anything?

i wont park up in sainsburys, come back and my cars sat on the floor not being able to drive it? lol

the bags are filled by a compressor in the boot fixed to a tank, its just a smaller version of the compressors that you use for air tools or painting i believe?

yeah i know about the blocks, since posting this i've found a couple of video's on you tube of cars dragging spark on air but not many (not compared to hyro's any way), so its not impossible, is it just that hydro's are more popular in this kinda scene?

Yeah, as smithy6n said above, its all about sparkers welded on, it'd be fucking pointless just dragging chassis. Fix some titanium plate to the lowest part and spark away knowing that you can just replace the plate!

so if dropping on its arse costs 1500 for example....

how much is having a car with hydros lowrider style, full blown bouncing on 2 wheels etc.????

tbf i'm far from shy when it comes to dragging chassis components, just ask any one that was at polo show 07

but yeah i know the best way is to fit titanium blocks underneath, i've got mates that are in to super bikes and have titanium bits on there knees so they get sparks when they are taking bends, look cool as fuck

It's just that hydros in general are faster then air, so are better for quick drops when 3 wheel'ing etc.. air is more comfy and probably better day to day cause obviously air is compressable, liquid isnt..

Even some of the old Corsa and Saxo 'showcarz' have had hydro systems, so its doable, just not as common, in the UK at least..

As far as the bouncing lowriders, they run like 8 pump systems with about 8 batteries to match, so probably very expensive!

i'm not interested in bouncing or 3 wheeling, i just wanna be able to drop it while i'm driving then lift it up when i've laid enough sparks

Of your a member on the caddy forum go on there and ask a guy called gibbers (baby blue mk1 caddy pick up on wellers) he's got a very good setup but it's a home made system and he could probably drop some knowledge on u! Also if u just want ass down sparks up lol maybe customise some rear struts from a disability car could maybe get some from a sharan or galaxy etc modified to fit! Would be cheaper!

Or you can get caddy pope mobiles that have them on probably a closer match as it's mk1 golf based (I know rear is on leaf springs) but could b worth a shot!

you can also mod range rover (or similar) bags onto your strut for a budget version. still works the same but has less range than rayvern kits for example.
