I'm thinking about getting an e30 325i as a little drift project, just wondering what peoples experiences of these cars are,

good or bad!

my g40 is fun and plenty fast enough i just want to be sideways a bit more often!

i think they are pretty sexy!

i've recently bought a 325i with a mate for a trackcar. When we bought it, it allready had a few bits like cage,bucket seats, an lsd and R888's, but we've spent around £1500 sorting bits ready for track useage. It doesn't really look amazing having had a rough paintjob in the past,but is lots of fun to drive!

First trackday @ Mallory park two weeks ago

E30 318is is what I would go for.

Especially if its your first RWD car.

Most came with an LSD as standard and they are quick enough from their 140bhp 1.8 16v.

Meh I wouldn't recommend the 318is at all for drifting, not enough torque, need to rev the nuts off them, would be best with the suggested 325i, fair bit of midrange from the 12v to break traction with.

Then again, maybe an E30 would be alright with the 16v lump seeing as they just don't have the same amount of grip the E36 rear end offers.

The bigger M20 engines (6cyl) make nice noises too go for a 323 and you can join my army

Really fun cars.. the only 2 to go for are the M42 318is or the M20 325i. The 325 has 30 bhp more but the 318is is more balanced and has a very revy engine. The 325 sounds epic through tunnels though!! :)

lsd as standard, open diffs are a wast unless your going to weld them up but that just makes every day driving bit of a mission

e30s are pretty expensive for what they are imo to get one that isnt ropey you need to spend a fair bit

my mates e36 328i, thats 7secs to 60 and 192bhp 155mph - cost him £1100 on 104k and it has been mint

he let me have a drive in it the other day, its boyyy does it shift. and goes very very sideways in the wet as well haha

e30s have the retro cool factor, i think the e36 needs another 10yrs before it will attract level of appreciation

also tobyk is right about the 318is, it will go sideways but in the dry you really can throw it into any corner and its too damn grippy and there is not enough power to throw it out. not too bad in the wet, but again the longer gears in extra torque in the 6 cylinder beasts help keep the back end out a lot

Love e30's.

I personally think they look better than e36s, which have a very high front bumper compared to the sideskirts which ruins the look of it a bit.

non-mtech e36s look smart if you buy a nice splitter for them

but these are easy to rip off and destroy as my flatmate found out if you get a slide wrong so i havnt bothered with one tbh

7 secs is such a over timed sprint to 60, when the 328 first came out a magazine (forgot the name) had it down the 5.8 with satellite accuracy. Plus I've had mine WELL under 7 seconds as I'm sure samsam will agree (plus our cars are nearly identical )

7 secs is such a over timed sprint to 60, when the 328 first came out a magazine (forgot the name) had it down the 5.8 with satellite accuracy. Plus I've had mine WELL under 7 seconds as I'm sure samsam will agree (plus our cars are nearly identical )

hahaha i was just quoting factory figs to keep the internet know it alls happy. my flat mates has made mincemeat of a few hot hatches and fast cars. civic type Rs, audi S3s are slow compared to it, done a CLK 320 in fairly easily also. definitly throws you back into your seat anyway

so funny coz it proper looks like a 4dr 316i

they r great little cars. i personally love bmws my brothers have had loads of them and currently has an 346 m3 and owned a 635i for his first car and i had the e36 318is coupe for my first car. granted that did need a bit more power to kick out more but when it did it sure as hell puts a massive grin on you are face. e30s r also nice cars and dont take much to make them look good. Just make sure you shop around till u fined the right one. its also probably best spending that extra couple hundred to get a nice one thats been looked after even tho u just want it as a track slag, least that way you will know not as much will need repaired to bring it to track standards.:)
