When it comes to best looking BM's, for me personally it's gotta be either the E28 5series or the E32 7Series! Came close to swapping my E36 for an E32 735i

Not sure if this is the E32 or the later version? All 7's are too big for my liking,though..

does any one else think that bmw's lost there 'classiness' after the E30? i'm not trying to say the E30 was the most classy or any thing, just that after that was when it all got a bit meh?

But yeah,the E36 was the first of the dull-looking BM's to me. They looked hard as nails before that. The E30 was a bit bland compared to previous models,to be fair. Tidy,at least.

E30 is a very raw driving experience and the E36 is more refined and eaiser to live with day to day, quicker but can be less fun than the E30 but as a daily car the E36 wins..

Hit the nail on the head there, although I think I would still have an E30 over the E36. But then if it got like that, as previously said i'd probably have an E32 735i or an E34 540i Saloon or tourer flavour, I love em both!

If I go out for a drive I would want to take the E30 as well but if I just wanted to get there in the most relaxing way the E36 is better.

I wouldn't wanna be relaxed - the E30 would probably be more than refined enough for me for any occasion.

I used my Polo for a 1,000 mile round trip every week at one point,and was almost bored half the time. Id have fallen asleep at the wheel of an E36 within the first 5,000 miles,for sure.

Well compaired to a mk2 polo then yes the E30 is refined :)

What i found is that in long journeys in the polo and to some extent the E30 I felt tired after the journey as it is tiring to do long distances in them. But the E36 I don't.

Tiring due to the effort put in - no pain no gain

to be fair the e36 is a good mile cruncher

over the summer i would finish work in spinnaker tower in portsmouth at 9pm then go for a night out and to see the gf in preston 280miles away in the same night and not feel tired when i arrived. record time for the journey was 3hrs 5mins, no danger of falling asleep! lol

My uncle has just bought a 325i e30 mtech cabrio

Anybody got an idea how kind to the wallet are e30s to maintain? I've been just looking for spare parts(breakers) for this thing for kicks and they are more or less cheaper than those for my ruddy polo! What's the engine to go for on these things? What are the mpg figures for that engine? How diffcult are they to live with(what are they like on the motorway is an important factor)? I know they're at an age where rust becomes a problem(like on my ruddy polo) but that can be handled. I'm a bit uneasy with the thought of RWD and wet roads, but my sister had an e30 for years and she's still alive. I mean a 316 is hardly going to push you around, but stick an m50b25 there and you'll be getting somewhere.

these things are bullet proof, well more or less,once the 316i is on song it will pull very strong,fuel is not that good on any but love everything about this machine

Depends on what litre you get

when you have the straight six engine in the bm (320i and onwards) then they are quite loud.

I went in my uncles 325i and it's straight six roars.

It's quite loud on the motorway, but who's cares it the sound of gods

and he's spun it once at a roundabout in the wet.

You can get alright mpg but it depends on how you drive it, I would say if you thrash it out all the you could get as low as 22mpg but that's for a 325i

As low as 22 mpg if you thrash it? 22 mpg is good economy for an E30 325i, I'd probably struggle to break into the teens on my daily commute.

I really don't like the look of the e34. And the size thing. The E30 is supposedly fine on the comfort side, cheap to run and a blast to own. I'm sick of my Polo since I've been throwing money at it and it's still just a shitbox. If I'd want to unshitbox it I'd have to throw massive ammounts of money into it(I am not buying cheap coilovers!). I'm afraid I fucked up from start with this Polo. Oh well, if I find the e30 a good drive, then I'll definatley be on the lookout.

If I had to drive a bmw then it would be a 525ix touring! :) Or a 540i V8!

I just drove a 318 touring and I'm a bit disapointed. It was more comfortable to sit in than my Polo, but it just felt slow. Ok fine, it was a touring with more weight and to top it off, it was fully loaded, but still. It left me wanting a bit more. And it was a bit ragged.

However, it was so comfy to sit in, grrr.

The engine bay did look nice though, lots of space! Enough to avoid some bruised knuckles!

I don't get how a 60/40 lowered e30 with "sporty" suspension was comfier than my polo. The no servo thing sucked ass.

i fancy a e36 318is next as i do alot of miles, shame insurance is so high, about 200 more then a mk3 16v golf
