i have a set of polo gti split rims was lookin too paint them but dont want to paint the bolts so was wondering whats the chances of getting them all out without any snapping?

Nah, Go slow, take your time. Bit of heat some plus gas and hope for the best!

If they snap they snap. just drill them out!

I've got two sets. One set that were really rough and one that wasn't. Funnily enough the good set lots of the bolts snapped and the rough set none of them snapped.

none of my BBS RM bolts snapped (120 of them!) and they were rough!

My GTi wheels were dog rough. When I got mine split all the bolts were fine. Just be careful.

I've done four sets and never snapped any.

quality tools are key when splitting them. dont use cheapo spline bits, as they will round off the heads. i found you need something in 1/2" drive to be man enough to split them. a breaker bar is usefull too. (didnt bother with wd40 or plusgas, the bolts were corroded in anyway, so i doubt it would do much) you'd have to be pretty strong or use a massive breaker bar to snap a bolt imo, didnt snap any bolts when i did mine. had to drill one bolt out though as a previous owner had attempted to use a torx bit to undo the bolts.

Like neil said, heat the bolts up and unscrew them till you feel a bit of resistance then screw them back in and repeat the process. they wont snap that way. the trick is to unscrew and screw back in to clean the threads.
