I kinda agree with them in a way because it should finally teach a lesson to these people that do 45mph EVERYWHERE!!!

But if they are just on the entrances and exits to residential areas how is it going to catch the people who speed rushing to work early in the morning or the boy racers at night just driving round and round the city centre at 100mph.

So to be fair I don't think they will catch out the people that really need to be caught.

as stated above, - POINTLESS and yes just another way to get more money out of motorists.... Govt are now trying to claw back money that they borrowed to the banks through every possible avenue....needless to say motorists will be picking up part of the bill (again) through these pointless schemes.

You've got to be a dick to speed in residentials anyway so it wouldn't be grabbing money from most people. The part I don't agree with is the lack of privacy, that if you were to step out of line just once they ram a fine up your arse. Big brother is watching stylee

Haha exactly, so say you get stopped at traffic lights for ages, you can speed off at 70mph and it's fine cos you won't get caught cos your average speed is still within the limits.

We all make mistakes though, even us law abiding citizens. Just say heaven forbid you averaged 25mph, that's gunna be a big fine and 3 points on your license, not really fair is it? Well In my opinion it's not really.

I agree with that tbh, although speeding in residentials is stupid. But i cant understand the need for 20 zones if I'm honest, weve all seen the adverts - its 30 for a reason, girl doesnt die etc etc. So why the need to go even lower

I'm gonna have a rant in here about speed bumps...

id happly swap these cameras for speed bumps.. just for the fact near me the 20mph zones have speed bumps all the way through them.

normal cars go over these bumps at 30-40 and no problems at all.. i think its only the people with lowered cars and sports car thats actually slow down for speed bumps cos they have dont have a choice!

It's ok them saying an average of 20mph BUT where are the signs to say it's a 20mph limit? Bloody no-where!!

I tried to have a moan at a knob in a car for flying past my parents house at 80mph, pointing out it's in reality a 20 limit and he told me to fuck off!

If all these limits are to protect pedestrians, where's the rule which states they can't walk down the road? Should be like America if so with a no jay walking law.

this government are a bunch of retard's tbh, why are they investing in even more camera's that have a massive flaw? these average speed camera can't do any thing about speeding motor bikes, motor bikes make up a massive percentage of the uk's road user's.

and does this mean they will be ripping up all the speed humps? they have already said in that story that speed humps fail to do what they were put there to do, and if they stick these up every where then there would be no ned what so ever for them.

i never thought i would see the day when i said it, but i can't wait for the tory's to get in to power.

if they put these cameras up in my area, i dont think they would last very long, as a fair few people on my road have angle grinders :-)

it has been proved in government studies that speed cameras do not reduce accidents in comparison to other traffic calming

meaures such as speed humps and slaloms, they are litteraly there just to make money!

infact cameras are more likely to cause accidents as people speed upto them and brake hard to make sure they dont set them off, getting rammed up the arse by the car behind.

Theres afew cameras round here which arent even in accident spots and if they are, it was a pedestrian walking infront of a car getting squished which is what they deserve if they think theyll win a fight with a car!

I agree with the speedbumps argument aswell. Also, we're trying to be all "environmentally friendly", well it's been proven that a car going down a straight road with no speed bumps will produce far less emissions than a car going down a road with speed bumps on it, due to it having to brake then accelerate, brake accelerate etc.

Just ruins my car aswell!

touching on that point, it was in the paper the other day that the goverment are expanding the limits on air traffic pollution which is pretty much giving the go ahead for another terminal at heathrow. so how do our government justify this increase in air pollution after setting almost impossible emission limits for the near future? that's right, they said that by then will have cut the number of drivers by then as most people will be using trains...

Residential Areas should be 20MPH and Motorways should be be 80MPH.

I have rarely exceeded the 30mph limit, it's pointless in most areas, but i don't see the point why cars can not go faster on motorways. Considering the National speed limit has now been around since 1960's cars have moved on now and are capable of slowing down easier and more effectively, we're no longer rocking the drum brakes, well in most cases i suppose.

speed limits should be what RIGHT minded people see as safe =] simple... i rarely see 25 in a residential area however on a nice open road decent conditions i do generally like to put my foot down enjoy the occasional spirited drive...
