Featured Replies

Has anyone adapted digifant injection to work on a 16v? Is it up to it? I'm guessin they could build a chip to suit?

Fitting Bike Carbs in a mk3 So anyway. To the meat! What do I need? 1 x Mk1/2/3 Polo ENGINE 1 x 1.4 16v (AFH Engine Code) out of a Mk4 Polo 16v “Valver” Engine Mounting Plate GEARBOX, A

Hey guys. Rang VW about that G40 Oil T-Piece. They said something about a banjo fitting that comes in two separate parts. Works out as about 40 quid for the two. Does this sound right? I was g

  • Wrong topic. But those carbs are set up for a 1.6 8v and the manifold is for a Ford 1.3/1.4/1.6 CVH 8v engine. Carbs themselves would be fine for a 1.6 8v Polo.

there is a lad on here that has cut up and mated a 16v and gt inlet manifold and is running it on the gt digifant on the standard chip. he say's it runs fine, but how it compares to the standard AFH set up i don't know?

Trial by fit,8mm id for all hoses,10mm for the hose's directly into the carbs(i use the proper bike hoses) with an 8mm to 2x10mm t piece. For the clutch just do it by eye its not hard to see if its alinged but you'll be Pissed off if it ain't after refittin it all! If its your first time get a clutch alingment tool!

so ill be doin mine carbs on a 1.4 8v aex engine ,750 bike carbs

do you have to use the parts bellow as i got told i could use mine from the mk3 engine?

and do you have to use a facet pump or simmler or will it run of the under car pump?

Facet Solid State Pump

Mk2 Polo Distributer

Mk2 Polo Ingition Amp

Mk2 Polo Ingition Loom

Mk2 Polo Coil

and last of all do i have to put the servo vaccum on the inlet manifold or can it go anywhere else?

cheers

servo vac comes from an area that has a vacuum, your inlet manifold has a natural vacuum and therefore is the place to take it from. ideally you should use all four ports and use a one way valve to negate pulsing which can cause a funny idle.

you will need a low pressure pump, or a turbo regulator fed into a low pressure regulator. id prefer the simplicity of the first.

who told you, you can use mk3 parts? if your confident you can heed their advice, but id say read the mk3 bike carb faq thread and all your questions should be answered time and time again

any reason you've chosen 750cc carbs? I've found my 600s to be perfect for my 1.4 16v and although i didnt have teh 1.6 16v engine running for long, the carbs didnt feel restrictive

yeah I've read quite alot of all the bike carb threads

the reason i used 750 carbs is because i bought the engine and carbs from a mate and thats how you ran it ,exept he ran it in a mk2

matt way on here who lives local to me said i should be able to use my mk3 dizzy, coil ,ignition etc

I'm just clearing things up reli

so back to the oil pressure senders.. why do you use both? surely you can only use one?

I've just got the low pressure one plugged in :)

Hi everyone, I've got a mk2 1.4 16v on r1 carbs. I need to fit a choke cable coz its a pain.to start when its cold. Could I simply adapt a standard mk2 choke to fit? Cheers for any help

As long as the Choke on the R1 carbs is a pull/push one then I don't see why not. I fitted one to my CBR 600's and it worked fine but I took it off as I had no problem starting when cold.

if your choke was manual it should be quite self explanatory!

YeH it is push and slide. No the car wasn't originally a manual choke, but thanks for your help guys!

will any regulator work or do you need a certain one

cheers

Depends how you are regulating it!

If you are going from an injection pump you will need 1 high pressure and then a low pressure one to go to the carbs.

If you are running from a Facet then just a normal pressure one would do the job.

Check out the bike carb thread in the FAQ... explains all.

Not specific to this engine but you only need to fill the bowls of the carbs so doesnt matter which engine its on (within reason).

Hi there all,

This is my first ever post, just want to say that i'm totally blown away by this engine swap concept and how comprehensive all the information in the build threads are. Every time i come up with a stupid question an answer is only a bit more digging away. Thank you all for an amazing job all round.

Finances permitting i'm hoping to take the AFH challenge this summer.
