Mk1-3 Polo 1.4 16v FAQ + Conversion Guide

Featured Replies

so I've just picked up a car that needs this finishing off, thinking out loud about the alternator belt arb mount issue, why not mount the alternator pulley a few mm away from the arb mount, and use a thinner belt, i found one at halfords 17mm wide and use the alternator and bottom pulley to align each other?

I've attached a picture to show

i can not see any real issues with this plan?

Hey guys. Rang VW about that G40 Oil T-Piece. They said something about a banjo fitting that comes in two separate parts. Works out as about 40 quid for the two. Does this sound right? I was g

  • Wrong topic. But those carbs are set up for a 1.6 8v and the manifold is for a Ford 1.3/1.4/1.6 CVH 8v engine. Carbs themselves would be fine for a 1.6 8v Polo.

4 of the 5 holes line up on the gearbox to afh.. so is it the case of just leaving one bolt out :S.. Not sure without looking lmao but sounds bait ..

Anyone got any pics ?

hi guys,

the HB680G alternator belt is now obsolete from halfords. so is becoming hard to find!

is there anywhere else to get that belt?

Isn't that a code though? Like one means it's ribbed, 680 maybe the length or something.

Go your local motor factors like I said, mine don't hesitate in giving you a couple to try

ill give euro car parts a message on here and see if they know of anything

When you list the part number where are these for?

they had a ball ache finding my belt in halfords too and i ended up having to go to cov for it cause it was the only place with one in stock. if any one needs one if you cover postage or collect you can have mine (barely used), its gonna be too short for my car now :unibrow:

Any one got an updated part number on the alternator required ? An were to get it from iff not halfords ?

Surely its just a non power steering belt?

Yep, early MK3 Golf 1.4 8v (engine code ABD) without PAS is the one I use, plenty of suppliers should stock it being a Golf..

Jesus Christ ! Finally the info we need !faqs need bloody correcting ect. Use reg k533yvt that should be right , cheers mikey

ECP found a suitable one didn't they?

All you need is the length and type, any motor factor will have something suitable lol.

When was mocking up Aux setup on my friends mk1 they gave us 5 to try, kept te one that worked and took 4 back..

But we don't need to try different belts now harris, a reg has been supplied bro lol, easy peasy

with a nugget of common sense, you could go and pick up the correct belt at any motorfactors, we shouldnt need to hold peoples hands.

nice to know that a thanks goes amiss, but as soon as someone wants to moan.

Regarding where you wish information to be added to the main topic, please message myself and I can add in the relevant details. I am not prepared to put peoples reg numbers in the FAQ guide, if you can cross-reference that with a part number, I will gladly update the original post.

If I fail to reply, please just press report post which will highlight the requested change to a moderator, it can then be discussed with me and the post can be updated either by the mod, or myself.

Cheers :)

hi all please can anyone help me with wiring up my afh 1.4 16v on fuel injection in a mk3 coupe 93, bought everything from the same car so that's immob key engine fusebox (leggies guide) for plugs needed for fusebox, ecu etc everything is plugged in as people have said but wen turning key starter clicks then nothing and when I turn key after few times its blowing fuse 14 in the mk4 box which is something to do with head lights ???

Where do you get the bike carb manifold from because it wont let me load the link up

  • 11 months later...

Just to double check I am reading this correctly, if you are running the carb setup you do not need the ecu or loom from the afh? You just use your dizzy and the original ignition loom?

Yes that correct. you just plug in the wires you need to get the engine running from your currently loom. This does depend on what car its going in.

Perfect! Thank you! It's a 1.3 mk2f coupe!

I'm fitting an afh to a mk2f. Would anyone have a pic of the mod to the right engine mount? Mine from the mk2f is fouling the cambelt cover on the afh.

2nd I'm trying to use the stock intake and air filter box from the afh but it appears to be hitting the bonnet has anyone encountered this?
