Wondering if anyone can give me some gearbox help

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've been a lurker on here for a while (well, any time I've had a problem with my car) and have only just signed up.

Anyway I have a 1999 Mk3 polo 1.9CL diesel. I've owned it for 2 years and so far have replaced

Flywheel

Clutch

Fuel lines

Headlight

Cat converter

among other things. The latest little 'surprise' that it has decided to throw at me is the gearbox, and basically I need a new one. The problem I'm having (and have had when getting parts for it in the past) is that this car seems to be a bit of a bastardisation between the mk3 and mk4, in that some parts are the older model, others are newer, and some parts they just decided to put in there for a laugh.

I got a gearbox from a broker last week for a 1999 polo and it turns out its the wrong one, my Mechanic says that I need a Black back one, where the Clutch connector fork comes out of the top, rather than the side. He seems to think these are pretty rare.

Has anybody here had the same problem/know what I'm talking about, and could anybody give me any more information on these specfic gearboxes so as to make my search a bit easier?

any help is much apreciated as Public transport is rubbish, and I love my polo and dont want to see it going to the big dealership in the sky.

Cheers

Louis.

Looking at Vagcat, the online version of EKTA, your gearbox has the same casing as a 'normal' 6N Polo. Have a look at the white build sticker which is usually in the boot somewhere.

^^ But for the casing, being a diesel? And if the previous pedal boxes are the same then surely the previous box complete with its remote would be a straight swap?

There's no alternative shown/listed.
