I have a Polo MK6 with 1.6L engine manual transmisson.

How to shift gear is good for the engine and save fuel?

My driving habit is:

Shift gear 1 to gear 2 at approximative 2000rpm;

Shift gear 2 to gear 3 at 2000rpm-2500rpm;

Shift gear 3 to gear 4 at 2000rpm-2500rpm;

Shift gear 4 to gear 5 at 2500rpm or more(depond on the traffic situation);

I got information from other forum that it is good for the engine if you shift the gear more than 2500rpm.

but this is not good for power consumption.

What do you often do?

How is it good for the engine to change at low RPM's?

An engine takes the most wear when at idle , and is happyiest when just under its limiter, theres an equation IRRC.

But yeh you might save a few quid

Shifting at 2000rpm all the time just means your constantly accelerating which uses alot of fuel regardless of gear and revs. (I know the government tell you to do it but its bullshit)

The best way to get good fuel economy is to accelerate as hard as possible (without killing the car and being a dick) to the speed you want to get to the slot it into 5th and stay at that speed.

This means you will spend very little time accelerating and more time at a constant speed using little petrol.

I find the best way to be more economical and ensure maximum fuel consumption and less stress on the engine is to push the car!!

i found i used less fuel givein the car some crap up to the speed i wanted like some one not long said lol then put it in 5th or 4th in other cases and u use less fuel :-D

now me and the mad scientist gotta rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried

Forget about rpm's and clutches, just ram it in whenever.

why not get a 1.6? It would be more economical than if it had some thing like a 1.2 in it.
