right this problem has been an issue with my car for the past year now, but I've been driving another car for work so its not really been a big issue.

the speedo doesnt move off zero?

also, the petrol guage goes up and down as youre driving, along with the fuel light.

the rev counter/tempguage/clock etc all work......

I've checked all connections on the back of the clocks and fuse box.

anyone got any ideas??????????????????????

I'm not familiar with the mechanical side of cars....

is it best i go to a normal garage and tell them this or go to anyone in particular?

just fixed my girlfriends...

its a loose cable on the right of the engine....

her clocks wouldnt even show the milage and light up!

hmmm! like i said, speedowont move, fuel and temp guage are playing up, moving up and down.....

Again, I'm having the exact same problem, but with a 6k Classic. Took my clocks off and both wires are plugged in perfectly, I'm not sure where they end up though, so I couldn't check the other end.

Anyone, this is becoming a major pain. :p

I have the exact same problem with my 6n2 gti. Speedo is stuck on Zero, and Fuel gauge moves to empty when going round right corners.

First thoughts is that its the speedo cable but I replaced a snapped clutch cable yesterday and the problem has come about since! Have i knocked a wire or sensor or something? or is this a coincidence?

Please help, there are tonnes of speed cameras round my parts!!!??

check the cable for the speed sensor on the gearbox. It's at the back and the earth cable can sometimes become brittle and break.

The thing that is common to all of these is the earth connection behind the instruments, this will be brown, with perhaps a white tracer. As a check, you could try a temporary substitute to a really good earth (engine or battery negative).
