Poor fuel consumption problem

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The polo is all of a sudden started drinking fuel.

It regularly got a return of 320 miles or over to a £40 tank. Now i'm only getting 250 if i'm lucky with the last tank only getting me 220!

There is a strong smell of fuel on start up, be it hot or cold which lasts for about 30 seconds. No leaks anywhere and no smell of fuel not running.

I've given it a full service using genuine parts plus used wurth fuel system cleaner in the tank before last.

anything prone to going wrong e.g sensors or anything?

Many thanks,

Rob.

Mines the same, I put £25 in on tuesday, that has gone already in 100miles! Driving economically as well! Gonna give it a good service this weekend, plugs, airfilter, oil, oil filter, coolant flush and run some injector cleaner through it and see if that helps!

Have you checked the the condition of the hoses going to the injector rail? (Assuming its the 1.6 with MPI)

The clips on these hoses can weaken causing fuel to leak through onto the inlet manifold, in turn causing a smell of fuel and piss poor consumption.
