Joined the club today, so sorry if this has been answered already... I have recently bought myself a 2004 polo 1.4 tdi and it has central locking, but its not remote central locking... i was wondering whether it would be possible to make it central locking atall? i mean would i have to buy a new key and then get vw to tweak a computer to get it to work?

I have the same question - I'm new to this board and am just getting familiar with the search function.

I Googled for hours and found references to a "pump" in the boot that can be modified with a remote key kit. So far Mean Machine are coming up on all the searches I have done for a solenoid-less kit (i.e. the car already has central locking, I just need the remote bit).

What is odd is the lack of standard VW upgrade for remote central locking though. Surely if I bought the remote version, it would have a unit added to it to provide that funcationaity. Can I buy the VW standard add-on remote locking unit and keys instead of an unkown (and untrusted) add-on?

Simple answer is No. Why? Because VW uses different central lock modules for cars with remote central locking and just central locking, please see the ETKA diagram I have attached below. So unless you replace the whole unit, VW doesn't have an add-on remote locking unit and keys, because its not that easy.

So your only option is to install a Third Party Alarm/Central locking module, which will tap in the central locking loom, and solve your problem. They are fairly easy to install, provided you know what your doing

any aftermarket alarm will work on it

the central locking is negative resistive and requires a 1k ohm resisitor

and the door triggers circuit requires diodes to work correctly
