whats not decent bout the ones off ebay lol?

whats the legal requirments for them aswell ... like what does my car need to have ??

Chris

Id save and get hi/lo beam ones as i supose it could be dangerous on non lit country roads etc. once you switch your high beam on the lights will just turn off as they are ment for projector headlamps which run a seperate bulb for high beam .

Also the legal requirements for HIDs are to have projector headlamps with self leveling and headlamp washers.

Thats not exactly true, as pointed out 1000s of times over 1000s of forums and websites, some cars from factory do not have projectors washers or self leveling. Does this now make them illegal? Surely if this was the case those said cars would be recalled?

You'll Obviously know better than me, but thats what i was told by an MOT tester. they really put hid's in non projector headlamps?? they're blinding..

They can be blinding no doubt about that, however so can HIDs behind projectors. As many have said before, when all cars have HIDs from the factory people will stop whining on about them. When halogens were first introduced to cars people would have been saying the same back then.

You no in my post above, i meant the projectors and headlamp washers and self levelers were requires for HID's? is tht what you corrected me on

I'm pretty sure your car will run Lo/Hi beam off one bulb

yer my car does ... has H4's but what I'm saying is can i buy this kit ... then buy the H4 hi-lo beam bulbs seperate for the kit ??

Chris

By then your not going to be far off what decent UK suppliers are charging. By all means buy the it off ebay for £35 but make sure they accept returns at no cost to yourself, how long the warranty is if any and how long returns take.

The majorrity of my custom comes from people replacing broken parts from cheam kits bought on ebay, by the time they have replaced parts they could have bought two decent kits.

See it day in and day out and still people go and purchase them. :D

No doesn't work like that I'm afraid :-(

the ballasts should work with any kind of bulb, single beam, or hi/lo beam. You may require a wiring harness if you want to change over at a later date depending on what bulb type you choose to purchase.

But yes is the answer.

No advice is better than bad advice.

true tht.

i suppose i should just stop being a cheap skate and fork out for the good stuff lol

Chris

how will it switch over to the high beam when it only has one output?

edit: Or is it a full high low kit with just a single beam bulb?

Edited by danny6n

its the bulbs that determine how many beams they have, ballasts are only used to ignite the bulbs on initial statup.

Can I trouble you for a circuit diagram?

Chris

Why not just get the appropriate kit for your car?

The bulbs alone would be another 30 or 40 quid so you might aswel get the correct kit in the first place.

And yep, alot of people do run HID's in regular Polo headlamps, including me, up until last week, as I'm upgrading to the GTI projectors.

google should find a diagram I do have some knocking around but I'm waiting for the lappy to die then thats it for me today.
