could i buy a cheap 35 set of ebay and then get hi-lo beam bulbs .. or would tht not work ?

Why not just get the appropriate kit for your car?

The bulbs alone would be another 30 or 40 quid so you might aswel get the correct kit in the first place.

And yep, alot of people do run HID's in regular Polo headlamps, including me, up until last week, as I'm upgrading to the GTI projectors.

Indu is that due to the cheap kit off ebay giving you trouble? Radio interference was it?

By then your not going to be far off what decent UK suppliers are charging. By all means buy the it off ebay for £35 but make sure they accept returns at no cost to yourself, how long the warranty is if any and how long returns take.

The majorrity of my custom comes from people replacing broken parts from cheam kits bought on ebay, by the time they have replaced parts they could have bought two decent kits.

See it day in and day out and still people go and purchase them.

i suppose i should just stop being a cheap skate and fork out for the good stuff lol

Stick one up when you find one please. Going on my knowledge of conventional discharge lighting applications, I'm not convinced that one ballast can strike what is essentially two lamps without some sort of additional circuitry. But, you're the automotive hid specialist, so I'm sure you wont find it too hard to explain :-D

I thought it was, but it wasn't.

There was a cut in the dipped beam wiring, which a local garage sorted.

I've got halogens now as I ripped the HID's out because I thought they were broken, but in fact they're fine.

Inteference still there with the halogens, so it wasn't headlight related.

Radio interference could be solved by an RF capacitor for peanuts.

As for the same ballast being used on single beam hid bulbs or hi/lo beam hid bulbs...

The ballast just ignites the bulbs is the buld setup and wiring harness and vehicles wiring loom setup that determines how man beams or how this is accomplished.

Obvously a single beam kit can't be used as a dual beam kit, because the bulb only houses one bulb.

The dual beam kits we stock either uses a hid bulb and a halogen bulb, or one hid bulb that uses a electromagnet and shield to re produce the low beam and hi beam patterns.

All three different types of bulbs can be run off the same ballast.

Ahh, so the second beam pattern is produced using reversed polarity on the same ballast? I see... Didn't think they'd do it like that but it makes sense i suppose.

Off the top of my head/

This is on the electromagnetic Hi/Lo HID's:

with nathans kit you get a wiring loom, 1 wire goes to the battery giving a main feed, you then plug the plug into the original headlamp socket (this is then used as control for a switching circuit, not only telling the lights to switch on and off but also hi/lo beam).

Have seen a HID/Hal kit and from what i saw the HID stays lit when the halogen is on and the halogen uses the original car system for power providing full beam but no real gain over stock when using it.

I bought a £44 delivered kit off ebay from japan or something like that. They are great and near exactly the same as my brothers ones where he paid £140 for his. :) If mine break am just going to buy another set which is exactly the same. Coz its only £44, sure i could buy a more expensive kit from a UK dealer but they are still eventually going to break and i will then have to pay to get a new part which is even more cash. :)

I have a later spec 6n Valver which came with adjustable lights so i run my HID's but have them set right down which gives me more than enough to see and doesn't blind others. and when i get to a back road etc i just turn them up. The standard dip beam HID's are bright than normal cars full beams anyway so it doesn't bother me not having any full beams other than flashing someone through or to say Hi, kinda thing. I will soon change that as i am going to wire my Fogs as lights i can flash (similar to a full beam).

Takes 2 secs to change the bulbs back round for an MOT also. :)

just a 35W 8000k kit. :)

was much easier to fit than my brothers more expensive kit. he had to join wires etc. all i had to do was mount ballast boxes, drill a hole in the back of the headlight cap and just plug in the new loom to where the old bulb would go. :)

i think I'm just gonna get a single beam kit ... its not like i ever use full beam anyway lol like you say they are much brighter then normal cars main beam anyways :)

Order after xmas, probably better. :) Mine only took bout 6 days to come. thats less time than it takes for some UK dealers to send things. :)

Nah never mate. My brothers had his for about 1 1/2 years and he has been stopped at night for his german plates and they never mentioned about his lights even though they were on. My other brother also ran a 6000k set on his Audi RS2 and didn't get stopped for them. :)

But i keep them low, as theres nothing worse than getting blinded by a set thats adjusted wrong.:)

Yeah id like to know as well as I'm running 10000k on mine single bulb but dipped down using my adjusters any advice on legal road use oh and I've got fk depo powerlooks also

pretty sure the 6000k,8000k,10000k etc etc. is just the colour really. the low ones are kinda like standard lights then the higher up they go white/yellowish , white, white/blueish, blue, whitish blue/purple. :0

I have attached a chart i found to kinda show yas.
