travelling back on Sunday night to Bristol from Oxford, get onto the motorway and sit at 60, using my brothers mk2 atm and it's a bit uneconomical for some reason so I just take it easy.

I get pulled over by a cop, over to the hard shoulder. He looks round my car, asks if it's mine, I explain that it's my brothers' and i'm insured on it.

He says a member of the public has reported me for swerving between the lanes on the motorway, I immediately think what the hell? I explained that I was doing 60 all the way and just sat in the slow lane so there was no way I could be.

Passed the breathalyser test, naturally. He then told me it was an off duty copper who reported me.

Now then, was that just an excuse to breathalyse me as I was going relatively slow (60mph) I certainly wasn't swerving anywhere so I take it that just cos you're taking it easy they assume you've had a drink or two?

I'm not bothered either way, I strictly don't drink and drive, I get paranoid just after a shandy if i'm driving so I had nothing to hide!

Shit my girlfriend up though, just left her on the hard shoulder in the cold, dark night while I was locked in the back of a cop car!

Ye, to of us got pulled in last year in separate cars on a sunday morning, we flew passed a copper on the hard shoulder who then over took us and pulled us in, he breathalysed us because we (the drivers) were wearing santa hats and could have been to a party, both of us tested negative. didnt say anything about passing him at just under a ton.

they were slightly less impressed by our luggage (high powerd bows and other archery equipment) all of which was chained and locked in the boot, but as we were going shooting and had our licenses he had to let us go.

I guess it's the Christmas drink drive campaign? They're out in force round here blocking the road and picking people off as they drive past in the evenings.

i used to get stoped all the time , usaly by the same cop by the village hall because i used to come back lateish , never for any paticular reason , only hapend in my mk 3 tho as i was down 90 mm and veri loud , in my 6n just as loud down 80ish mm but never stoped , was even following a car infusiasticaly because if u mention racing on the road on here its fround upon , aniway i pulled up at the lights by him turned out to be a under cover cop , he just smiled n tor off from the lights

Pretty big on it down this way. Had signs up on the local dual carriageways warning about random breath tests, seen quite a few cars pulled over in the last few days also.

Surely they have to have just cause to test you otherwise it could be classed as harrasement?

Nah mate...they can pretty much stop you whenever they want.All they need

to say is something like your rear light was out or you never indicated at the

last junction.Once they've got you stopped all they need is "reasonable suspicion"

which can be a smell of drink or drugs to breathalyse you or search your car...

They've started to take cars from drink drivers up here now,although i think it's

if you are a repeat offender.Took a 58 plate Range Rover from a guy in Edinburgh

i got told they were doing that in cov as well the other night. they should do it more often imo rather than just at xmas.

I did on my old motorbike.. was late at night and went round a tiny island the wrong way around. because i was going right. He followd me for about a mile pulled me breathalised me and done me for my L plate and no indicators...

Although having on indicators on a motorbike is legal as long as there is no switch!

Dropped the other half off at her crimbo party other day, coming down penistone rd in sheffield to be greeted by a policeman waving me into a slip road. asked if he could breathalise me as its a crimbo thing. said " finally something worth doing for you eh? " he had a chuckle did the test and wished me a merry crimbo then i was back on my way. I welcome the random drink drive stops but why do they only do them at crimbo..yea people booze more but surely they would be worthwhile all year round.

gotta admit i welcome them too... if it picks people off the road that are drunk or at least scares them into thinking otherwise about driving then its a good thing....

also its not harrasment anymore, they are allowed to do random stops on any car... or person for that matter... they dont need probable cause like the used to.... kinda bugs me when you get pulled and they say.. are you insured sir? well duh you know i am otherwise it woulda flagged up on the anpr you just pointed at me...

I think if you get pulled more than 3 times in a month its harrasment.. at least it was last time i checked... they should get a lil note on the radio if they run a check while following you. basically telling them you have been pulled allready... at which point they can only pull you for somthing wrong rather than a random check.. i checked with a cop a year or so about this when i got pulled in my old bready leaving southampton and he confirmed it.....

As an aside, the police weren't immediately happy that I could list for them what was in the back, but not show them it as I wasn't carrying the keys for the big hefty padlocks the back and side door were also wearing (we always kept the keys for the lockboxes and back of the van in a separate vehicle).

I'm glad there doing this gets all the people who do drink and drive off the road I've never done it mainly because my 1st ever crash was a head on with a drunk driver in a 4x4 (landrover freelander) and i was in a mk3 fiesta

my bow is chained to the car when its being transported, the odd curious one asks my to open the case and you hear the intake of breath. most dont ask questions due to the Hi-viz stripes, HAZMAT Technician and Military Explosives stickers

In my opinion that's a more worthwhile cause

I got pulled over and brethalised in my ibiza doin 30 in a 50 on 3 wheels in my ibiza....funnny at the time but the copper was unimpressed with my "antics" i passsed and he let me go with a sturdy warning

Last week i got pulled, breathalysed and subsequently FAILED

as i rule of thumb i never even take a sip of anything alchoholic when driving! So i was lumped in the back of a panda car, took down the bog station an put on the big accurate machine, which came up nothing, i remembered that half an hour earlier id munched a pack of strong chewing gum and told the custady sergeant who then told me and his officers that a strong menthal breathe can set the UNACCURATE road test off lol.

moral of this story - dont chew a full pack of gum at once before driving
