The noise occurs as I'm turning the wheel, Its only just started so I haven't figured out exactly where it's coming from but it seems to be in the space between the wheel and the dash(where the indicator stalks mount) any help would be much appreciated as it's a little worrying!

haven't had chance to rip the steering wheel off or cowling yet tbh

panda has this problem with his 20vt 6n, it got quieter when he changed the top mounts but its still there now...

sounds common, someone must have solved it...

must just be a dirt/dust build up or something i solved mine ages ago with silicone spray but its back again

Don't think so, mine just started today, one minute it was fine, then a 3point turn later and it was catching on summat.

Is it the horn ring bit, with dust/dirt in it grinding?

what do you mean by the horn ring? it sounds like there is a stationary piece of plastic rubbing on the moving plastic of the wheel - if that makes sense to you...

i think its quite common on the 6n's, try get some spray grease down directly behind the steering wheel but infront of that plastic surrounding for the steering column if that makes sense?

The brass bit on te back of the steering wheel is what i meant. Took one off a mates 6n a while ago and it was scored to hell, as was the one in my old gt which was making the same noise :)

ye just had a look and it appears to be the brass slip-ring type connection like you say, just funny how it started so suddenly.

i did have this for a couple of days and then it just stopped and i haven't had it since.

Mine started during a bit of sideways action in the snow but now i know i will resolve the problem tomortow cheers guys

mine did it for a few weeks, then stoppd... this was about 3 months ago and it hasnt come bak

I had this ages ago and started a topic too, someone suggested hoovering around the bass on the steering wheel and it worked a treat! never came back since :-)

i had my steering wheel off for something unrelated (gfetting the instrument panel out) and cleaned off a load of crap from that brass ring (was a load of hair on it for some reason lol)

put it all back together and now its doing it! never did it before!

might just WD40 it or copper grease it for good measure..

it will be the pickup for the horn. you can try a light greasing , but you might need to take wheel off to clean the contacts etc. dont forget to disconnect battery first before removing the air bag from the wheel.

I had this problem for ages bug when I changed my dag I took the steering wheel of and gave it a good clean and wd40'd that sucks n now it's silent some greases may act as insulation for the horn ring! But wd40 is also used as a connection cleaner so I figured that'd be the best bet!

WD doesn't conduct well but it will be quickly worn away by your wheel moving all the time, its used to clean and dry out wet/dirty contacts and to prevent corrosion (not really an issue here as its brass to brass) but not to aid conductivity. So long story short, in the long run WD is probably your best bet but initially it may cause minor horn issues.
