Afaik, its legal if you can see through it from the inside, and the wipers don't catch it :)

oh ok. thanks

What if you CANT see thru it from the inside but the wipers DONT hit it?

all of them should be illegal!

....and

AFAIK, if you're going to the letter of the law, it can't protrude into the wipers swept area.

hasnt the rule got something to do with the sweep of the wipers or something, they changed the rules the same time as the window tinting laws changed if i remember right, but they weren't exactly understandable back then.

Not sure on this, my mates got one on his punto and it does this, i'll get back to you in mid Jan time, when it goes in for its MOT :D

In that case mine could only be about an inch think  but i have a feeling thats what the rule is as it sounds familiar.

i do vehicle graphics for a living and often get people come in for sun strips. Its an mot failure but it can soon be striped off if the po po pull you the worst thing they can do is get you to pull it off like window tints :)

i have had sun strips on all of my cars never been pulled for unless u have a stupidly massive one that takes up have you window like i used to have but they wont pass an mot unless u no the bloke so put it on u wil have no problem and if u do get a tug they will only tell u to pull it off

its only illegal it the tip of the wiper blades foul it on the M.O.T even if you can see through it

legalities aside, why would you want to ?

wots funny?

Many funny possibilities but two spring to mind, tug is a euphemism for w@nk and tug is a nickname for mk3 Golfs. I'd guess the former but use the latter to dig folk who drive those barges out.

Re the op I'd have to agree with those who say "why?", looks good on a DTM or BTTC motor but otherwise NO!

oh ha ha. really funny. smithy is a dick anyway.

I could do with one, stop the sun getting in my eyes between the visors. Its usually quite low at this time of year.

If the wipers protrude the strip i'll simply fit shorter wiper blades.

 It was too easy tbh

i had a sunstrip that was like half way down lol

Didnt get pulled or anything just peed me off so ripped it off.

Think it has to be below your wipers or something for MOT

yeah you're not allowed anything on the windscreen that is inside the swept area of the wipers. Fitting shorter wipers is a sneaky way around this but they'll obviously clear less of the screen so you might have issues actually seeing where you are going properly in rain!

As you can probably see from my avatar I've got one in my g40. I don't like them but it's a necessary evil for me as the seating position in my car is such that the sun blinds me a lot if it's low in the sky, pretty dangerous on a track day if you come round a corner to find yourself dazzled by the sun, well pretty dangerous on the road too! Previous to this I've had to make a makeshift strip using duct-tape stuck to the inside of the screen! I also dont have sun visors because the rollcage covers up the mounting points for them but they'd not be that useful anyway.
