now people are gonna laugh at me 4 this but i reckon u should drop a schweet G40 engine in.

dunno up 2 u tho, when i had my mk3 i was going to do a GT Conversion, but then i sold and got my 6n2

I'm 19 so the G40 engine and 1.8T engine are pretty much top of the range :p. I was curious to know what sort of performance could be had from the other engines and how tuneable they are :). A 1.4 from a Golf seems like a good idea tbh, although I would like to know about a valver lump too!

best engine on a tight budget, 1.4GT (1.4 out of mk3 golf with gt injection)

Slightly bigger budget (another £100ish for injection/£200ish for carbs) and a bit more work, 1.6AEE with Gt injection or carbs.

Then 16v, G40 etc, but then it depends on your preference

What sort of performance could be had with the 1.4? I'd pair it up to a Mk3 Polo GT gearbox :).

Firstly: How much money have you go to play with?

Best to get the most for your money and the best parts rather than scraping cash together for something only slightly better but a lot more ropey that'll need money spent on it further down the line.

I would have thought any engine conversion at 19 will put the insurance sky high...

My Choice.. 1.4 16v suits the car really well.. and sounds great :)

I keep getting swayed towards an AFH. I do like my digifant though

I thought you weren't modifying the car due to you swanning off to Canada?

A nicely tuned GT should suit your needs. 100bhp :)

It's horses for courses really.

GT's are a lot of fun, revvy and quick, not fast, but quick. - http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=143419

1.4/GT hybrids lose the reviness, but gain torque.

G40's are fast, but there's a fair bit of scene tax associated, and they like their upkeep (charger rebuilds, etc)

1.6 small block/GT hybrid gives some nice gains, but you'll need to get an inlet fanimold alloy welded up and a mount drilled on the block. - http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=13935

I'd rather stay on a low budget tbh :).

Brentacre ftw :). That's what would sway me towards something like a 1.4 Golf engine as it didn't come from something particularly quick to start with, in comparison to a G40 lump ^^.

100bhp? We need more than that ;). Although that would be about double what I have now, so still listening ;). As for Canada, might be making a career change next year :p.

Epic post there Yeti but a bit much for me to swallow. What sort of actual performance could be had from these and what sort of economy would they produce :p?

Eg: A car capable of 130mph+ would be good ;).

Have you had any quotes? Its a major modification afterall....

TBH, if the readings a bit like hard work, you probably wouldn't fancy doing the conversion either.

130 in a Mk3? Bugger that.

All the information is in the thread Yeti has provided.

This type of question is a very common question in this section so I am locking this thread now; if you need to find out specific performance of each conversion then best to do so in their respective threads, that way you will more likely get answers from the people who have done the conversion.
