dont use directline if you are UNDER 25 and have a modified car

Featured Replies

right guys I've jst put some alloy wheels on my polo 6n2 and went to declare them with the insurance i was with (direct line) they wouldnt insure me because i am 20 and you have to be 25 to them if you mod your car. so i went to admiral who i got insurance from for £817 alloys and fog lights declared. i was over the moon. so under 25's you've been warned with directline. my mum and dad who have multicar with directline have said they are not going with directline ever again lol. too bloody right they spent £300 on them wheels

Well done mate, didnt read your policy outlines and rules before taking it out? Not DirectLine's fault, its yours.

doesn't really matter who's a idiot. at least you are with admiral now and sorted with insurance.

i think it's good that you went to that effort to declare the wheels, and didn't just stay with direct line with them un-declared.

i'm with admiral aswell and they have been pretty awesome. lowest prices and top customer service aswell, can't really fault them so far. good move.

I'm with admiral with all my mods declared, and have been for the past 3 years

cheapest and one of best insurance companys i have delt with

At least your declaring the mods

Most of the stupid noobs on here think its 'ard not to declare them.

And who really reads all the small print? I bet nobody in here has actually read it all have they?

Admiral just under cut my quotes from everyone else buy around 200 pounds and only charged me 27 quid extra for a claim i missed off by mistake.

the one i quoted mate, not you. you've done the right thing by switching, declaring and sharing your experience.

f*ck it, I've just renewed with direct line. Havnt declared my mods yet. I pay monthly so can i still cancel? id rather declare than not.

Are you serious? Hah calling me a idiot for stating the obvious? Guess its just me that reads stuff and asks questions when i'm paying almost £2000 for something

Churchill is the same.

I was guttered when i rang up and told her that I was going to put some VW Alloys on. They were BBS RZs, so were not really optional extras as I said, but anyways, at the end she just laughed at me after I spent about 10 minutes trying to pursuade her that it would make no difference

Admiral are fine until you tell them your car has a different engine with higher HP output, then they say "we don't insure engine conversions", lost 6 months no claims this way :x

From personal experience id say dont use directline if you like having any money left

I was abit silly when covered with directline on my polo. I'm not gonna lie , i had un-declared mods. After abit i thought what am i doing! . But weirdly the day i was on the way back to my house to ring them up and either cancel or see if they would still cover me , the polo died. Sooo , now iv bought a new car (mircra) I'm carrying on with them becuase they were the cheapest for me and obviously the micra is staying standard so i haven't got to worry. When the polo's back on the road after its conversion, Ill be looking for another company.

Who are all you other 18 year olds covered with?

Max

Wouldn't it have made more sense to check with the insurance company before spending £300 on wheels? You should maybe change the title of this thread to 'Don't use DirectLine if you are under 25 AND have a modified vehicle......
